Daniel Bryan Has Found Perfect Spot on the Card After WrestleMania 2015 Win

Tom ClarkApr 2, 2015

Daniel Bryan is the new intercontinental champion, and some fans are not very happy about it.  The reason has less to do with Bryan himself and more to do with the fact it's a secondary title he's been given and not the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

But don't cry for Bryan.  He's now found the perfect spot on the card after going over on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

For any other Superstar, landing in the midcard after having been on top of the industry could be considered a failure.  The goal of anyone getting into the business should be to go as high as possible, and no one was higher on the food chain than Bryan after his win at WrestleMania 30.  He's now at the middle of the card with a second-tier title.

But Bryan is not your ordinary Superstar; he's a different breed with a different mindset.

Bryan will fit into this role better than perhaps anyone can even imagine.  Instead of viewing his spot as a negative, he will likely see it as a positive and will ultimately make the best of it.  Holding the company's top championship is an achievement, but performing at a high level with the most prestigious secondary belt in company history is nothing to dismiss.

And Bryan himself is not easily dismissed either.

Bryan's character is a force of nature, a character who developed organically with the whole world watching.  He went from being an eccentric vegan who could not gain a foothold to being WWE's most popular underdog, commanding the respect of fans from every walk of life.

The man fans see now is the same man who once could not get the time of day from WWE crowds.  He's always been the confident and talented worker fans support now; he just had to find a way to get over for them to see it.

And he's arguably the most over Superstar in WWE.  Fans cannot get enough of him, and they want nothing more than to see him succeed.  He brings intensity to his game, his work ethic in the ring is second to none, and he's considered by many to be perhaps the best worker in the company.

Bryan is in a good place.  The fact that his place is not on top makes little difference now.

WWE has gone in a different direction, and despite how unpopular that decision was, there is no changing it now.  The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is around the waist of Seth Rollins, the Superstar billed as the future of the business.  And his top opponent over the next year will likely be the man who headlined WrestleMania, Roman Reigns.

The two former Shield teammates climbed the ladder throughout 2014, and Mania saw them further ascend on their singles runs.  They are now WWE's premier talents, and this year could see them trade the title back and forth at some point down the road.

Thanks to his victory over Rollins at Mania, Randy Orton is once again at the top of the ladder as well.  The Viper is surely not finished with Rollins, and he will be the first man to challenge the new WWE world champion.

John Cena is always in the equation, of course, and even though he was crowned the new United States champion at WrestleMania, he could be reinserted right back into the main event picture if necessary.  Cena is still the face of WWE, and that is not changing anytime soon.

And then there's Bryan, one of the best hands in the company and arguably the best of his generation.  He is a proven commodity, a man who reached great heights in WWE and knows what it takes to get over in a very big way.  He is always an option for WWE to fall back on if needed, and using him as intercontinental champion will help beef up the midcard like never before.

The belt will be elevated back to its former glory, and Bryan will continue to bring the house down every time he steps into the ring.  It's a responsibility that few can hold and consistently deliver when their name is called.  Bryan is the dependable workhorse, the Dolph Ziggler among these current main eventers.

Rather than prevent Rollins from realizing his potential and stopping Reigns from getting invaluable main event experience, Bryan is instead settling in to the midcard level.  He gives the IC title credibility, and he strengthens WWE on every program he's booked on.

It may not be the spot that many of his fans imagined, but it's the perfect one for him, and that's what matters the most.
