According to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe, it's a one-year deal worth $1.24 million, including $150,000 guaranteed. McClain, 26, appeared in all 16 games for the Atlanta Falcons last season, accumulating 59 tackles, a sack and two interceptions. In his four-year career, spent with the Carolina Panthers and the Falcons, he's totaled 187 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
His signing with the Patriots comes on the same day former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Bradley Fletcher joined the team, per Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports. The Pats have had to reconstruct their secondary this offseason after Darrelle Revis (New York Jets) and Brandon Browner (New Orleans Saints) each departed in free agency.
The team was able to retain safety Devin McCourty, however.
The secondary was one of the key factors in New England's Super Bowl title, so replacing the assets that departed in free agency was vital. Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus thinks the McClain signing is a solid addition for the team:
"Thankful to have the opportunity to continue my career with the @Patriots

Revis and Browner left big shoes to fill, of course, and McClain likely isn't up to that task. But the Pats are hoping they signed a player hitting his prime who will continue to improve and become a solid contributor for the team.
