David Sanchez vs. Juan Alberto Rosas: Winner, Recap and Reaction
David "Tornado" Sanchez successfully defended his interim WBA world super flyweight title for the second time on Saturday night, defeating veteran boxer Juan Alberto Rosas via TKO in the 10th round at Palenque de la Expogan in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
Sanchez, who earned his title with a unanimous-decision victory over Breilor Teran in May 2014, built upon his reputation as a fearsome knockout threat. He wore down the elder Rosas over 10 rounds before finishing off his opponent with an onslaught of power punches in the corner of the ring and forcing Rosas' cornerman to come running across the canvas and the ref to call the fight. It was the ninth loss of Rosas' career and the first via KO or TKO.

The talented Sanchez from Puebla, Mexico made good on his pre-fight comments, in which he promised victory was the only option.
"I will not fail in front of my people. I trained for more than two months in Los Mochis, and I am in the best physical and mental conditions. I trained hard to defend my title," he said, via WBANews.com's Hilmar Rojas Erazo.
After a relatively quiet first round, Sanchez injected some life into the bout with some furious punching in the second. He connected on a wild hook early in the round and threw several huge, lunging punches, with several of them making solid contact. Against a quicker counterpuncher, Sanchez might have suffered for his wicked hooks and snapping crosses, but Rosas was unable to make him pay for his efforts.
It was easy to see why Tornado is one of the better power punchers in the lighter ranks.
To Rosas' credit, he did a fine job of limiting Tornado's haymaker-happy approach after a dicey second round. The 30-year-old challenger was finally able to draw Sanchez into close range and take away the bob-and-weave approach he had used to great effect in the first two-plus rounds.
Rosas hardly had a chance to unleash any power punches against his lithe opponent; instead, he was forced into closing down space and trying to dig at the body of Sanchez.
Tornado remained the more active and effective boxer throughout the middle rounds, mixing in shots to the body with jabs and power punches to the head. Most notable among them was a left hook that rocked Rosas on several occasions.
It became clear as the match went on that the soft-bellied Rosas was ill-equipped to deal with the confident young champion. Sanchez ratcheted up the intensity in the eighth round after a couple of slower frames. He threw more two- and three-punch combos, with the majority of the blows hitting their target. He drew cheers from the crowd with a crunching overhand right midway through the round.
Rosas, likely behind on points, was relegated to mostly defensive swiping, although he did manage to slip in a couple of solid uppercuts when Sanchez opened up his body.
This one-sided affair came to a close in the 10th round. Sanchez saw an opening against a dazed Rosas approximately 30 seconds into the round and took advantage, connecting on hook after hook with his opponent defenseless and cowering in the corner.
It was a dangerous situation, and the officials had no choice but to call the fight, securing Sanchez's 17th consecutive victory in the process.
While it was clear the experienced Rosas leaves plenty of speed and quickness to be desired, that shouldn't take away from Sanchez's superlative display. With 21 of his 27 victories coming by knockout, he is one of the most dangerous fighters in the flyweight ranks. It won't be long before the young gun is challenging the likes of Kohei Kono, Carlos Cuadras or Zolani Tete for flyweight supremacy.
