Cavaliers vs. Clippers: Best Tweets as Cleveland Extends Winning Streak
LeBron James’ 23 points and nine assists, paired with Kevin Love’s 24 points, were enough to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a huge 105-94 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday night.
Leading by as many as 32 points, the Cavaliers had the game won by the end of the third quarter. Even a 20-point advantage for the Clippers in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough to put a damper on Cleveland’s most impressive win of the season so far.
Stretching their winning streak to 12 games, the Cavaliers have started to hit their stride as the season heads into its latter stages, while the Clippers have fallen off from their mid-January high.
From the opening tip, the game was all Cavaliers, with James in particular having a highlight-reel first half at Quicken Loans Arena.
With just over a week until the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest at the NBA All-Star Weekend, James reminded fans of the league what they will be missing without the superstar competing:
Coming into the night, the Clippers were the NBA’s third-best scoring offense, putting up 106.7 points per game. But they only managed 63 points in the first three quarters before scoring nearly half of that total in the fourth quarter.
With a big lead heading into halftime, Cleveland looked to be having a ton of fun and were much more relaxed than earlier in the season when all of the pressure seemed to be getting to the players.
Even without Kyrie Irving shooting the ball well, the point guard finished the night 1-of-5 from the field, the Cavaliers had no issues dispatching Los Angeles.
Late in the game, both sides pulled their starters, which meant an extended appearance for guard Austin Rivers, who hasn’t been great since joining his father in Los Angeles.
The performance was a big one for the Cavaliers, but it might have been more telling of a Clippers team who hasn’t looked great in its last four games and were whistled for five technical fouls in the game.
It was the 12th consecutive win for the Cavaliers, who seem to have bounced back from their midseason struggles and are back in the top three of the Eastern Conference.
It was also proof that Cleveland could not only hold its own with one of the powers in the Western Conference but absolutely dominate them from start to finish.
If LeBron and Co. are going to bring a title to Cleveland this year, it will have to go through one of the best teams out West, and the Cavaliers proved against the Clippers they might be up for the task.
