Breakdown
Even though the Seahawks are the defending champions, the Patriots are the ones with the advantage in playoff experience. Tom Brady is set to compete in his sixth career Super Bowl, and he has already won three of them.
Meanwhile, he has had a ridiculous amount of success in his career in the entire postseason, as noted by ESPN:
Brady will have the confidence to go into the game knowing he has been in this type of situation before.
That being said, even Patriots coach Bill Belichick notes that the past doesn't mean everything:
New England has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, but Seattle might be even better. On the defensive side of the field, the battle isn't even close.
While the Patriots have elite talent like Darrelle Revis and Vince Wilfork on defense, the Seahawks come through with studs at just about every position.
The strength of this team is certainly the secondary, with All-Pro players like Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas. Even though all three players are dealing with injuries, they will all likely play and help slow down the opposing pass attack.
Seattle finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the league in pass defense, No. 1 in total defense in yards allowed and No. 1 in points allowed. Meanwhile, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com notes it is more than just talent that leads to the success:
Aaron Rodgers was held to just a 51 Total QBR in the past game, while Peyton Manning had just a 24.4 Total QBR in the Super Bowl a year ago, per ESPN.com.
As good as Brady has been this season, he will struggle to run up the score against this talented unit.
On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks will rely on Lynch, who remains incredibly difficult to bring down. He rushed for 157 yards last game, and it seems clear the team is willing to give him the ball no matter what the scoreboard says.
In reality, he only needs to keep the game close because Russell Wilson can take care of the rest. The quarterback doesn't always put up the best stats, but he is as clutch as they come to make the plays when it matters, either with his arm or his legs.
He led the game-winning drive against the Packers and has the ability to do it again to give his team the advantage in a close game.
This battle has the opportunity to be one of the best Super Bowls in recent memory, but the Seahawks will pull out the narrow win.
Prediction: Seahawks 27, Patriots 24
