Lynch Looking to Break Seahawks' Postseason Rushing TDs Record

Bleacher Report MilestonesJan 28, 2015

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch enters Sunday's Super Bowl against the New England Patriots as the owner of eight career postseason rushing touchdowns, tying him with Shaun Alexander for the most in franchise history, per ESPN Stats & Info on Twitter.

The eight touchdowns place Lynch 10th on the all-time postseason list, tied with Alexander, Curtis Martin, Ricky Watters and Steve Young, per Pro-Football-Reference.com.

If Lynch rushes for one score during the Super Bowl, he'll tie Jerome Bettis, Larry Csonka and Tony Dorsett for seventh place, while a two-touchdown showing would give Lynch sole possession of the same spot.

Among active players, Lynch is the leader in postseason rushing touchdowns, per Pro-Football-Reference.com.

Surprisingly enough, two of his opponents in Sunday's game are second and third on the active list, with LeGarrette Blount's seven touchdowns good for sole possession of second place, while Tom Brady's five are part of a six-way tie for third.

With just one year remaining on his contract and Seattle potentially facing some tough decisions in free agency, Lynch may not get another chance to reach paydirt in the playoffs while wearing a Seahawks uniform.

He already has some of the most memorable postseason touchdowns in franchise history, including a go-ahead score against the Green Bay Packers in the final two minutes of the NFC Championship Game.

However, his most memorable run in the playoffs came against the New Orleans Saints in a 2011 Wild Card Game, when Lynch broke nine tackles on his way to a 67-yard touchdown that has since become known as the "Beast Quake" play, due in large part to the incredibly loud reaction it created within the stadium.

While Lynch has a propensity to shy away from the media, he's never shied away from contact on the field, and his famous tackle-breaking ability could lead to a Super Bowl moment for the ages.
