NBA All-Star Game 2015 Rosters: Voting Results for Starters, Predicting Reserves

R. Cory SmithJan 23, 2015

The moment NBA fans have all been waiting for has finally arrived. Rosters for the 2015 NBA All-Star Game have been announced, leaving plenty of room for debate because the superstar from their favorite team wasn't named a starter.

What are the odds, right? Only five players are selected from a conference with 15 teams with a maximum of 15 players on each roster. Well, they're pretty slim, let's just say that.

Now that the final voting results have been released, the only spots left are for reserves. The title isn't exactly as glorious as being a starter, but the reserves typically play an important role, and at times, they outshine the starting lineup.

Before the reserves are officially announced for the All-Star Game on Feb. 15, here's a look at the players most deserving of traveling to New York.

DeMarcus CousinsSacramento Kings

Let's go ahead and get this out of the way: There are several players in the Western Conference deserving of playing in the All-Star Game. Leaving the likes of Klay Thompson, Mike Conley and Dwight Howard off was tough, but every player on the list is deserving.

Even at his advanced age, 38-year-old Tim Duncan is still averaging a double-double and two blocks per game for the San Antonio Spurs. Quixem Ramirez of ProjectSpurs.com offered his take on the perennial superstar compared to other aging players:

On the other end of the spectrum, 24-year-old DeMarcus Cousins continues to improve and can't find his way onto the All-Star roster. In 30 games this season, he has dominated every time out, averaging 24 points, 12.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game—not that anyone cares about defense in the ASG.

One person who is backing Cousins as a reserve is his former college coach, John Calipari:

Both might have been overshadowed by LaMarcus Aldridge, but the big man won't be able to play in the event due to a thumb injury. The Portland Trail Blazers' PR account announced Aldridge will miss several weeks with the ailment:

Meanwhile, the guards were even more difficult than picking the forwards. With so many great shooters like James Harden and Russell Westbrook, there simply wasn't enough room for Conley on the list.

Simply having Chris Paul and Kevin Durant as reserves seems like an unreal amount of talent to go around. But in the Western Conference, the depth is so great that even some of the biggest stars might not make the cut.

East Reserves

Jeff TeagueAtlanta Hawks
Jimmy ButlerChicago Bulls
Paul MillsapAtlanta Hawks
Chris BoshMiami Heat
Nikola VucevicOrlando Magic

Though the East roster isn't as deep as the West, it doesn't mean some mulling over the choices wasn't required. In fact, it basically came down to which Atlanta Hawks players were most deserving of reserve spots.

None of Atlanta's lead men were in the starting lineup, but four were arguably deserving of a roster spot. However, the players left out were Kyle Korver in favor of Jimmy Butler and Al Horford due to the great play of Nikola Vucevic.

Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer passed along his observations:

Going by Bonnell's standards, only one deserving Hawks player was left off the list. However, Korver's .535 shooting percentage from behind the arc says otherwise. But I digress.

Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap are the leaders of the best team in the NBA at 35-8 and currently riding a 14-game winning streak. Both average over 15 points per game, with Teague adding 7.4 assists and Millsap hauling in 7.9 rebounds.

What pushes Millsap over Horford is simply his range as a stretch forward, shooting over 38 percent from three-point range in the last five games. As for Teague, the man just deserves some respect for his craft, as Tom Haberstroh of ESPN.com notes:

Most of the other spots were obvious choices, with the only painful absence being Kevin Love. His overall body of work may be greater than some, but others were simply more deserving of the spots, edging him out like both Korver and Horford.
