Chan Gailey has been named the Jets' offensive coordinator. Because Todd Bowles, the new head coach of the New York Jets, has a history as a great defensive mind, arguably his most important hire in his first NFL head coaching position is going to be his offensive coordinator.

Jets Previously Believed to be Cooling on Gailey
Monday, Jan. 19
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Gailey to the Jets was not yet a done deal:
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports previously suggested the Jets might be willing to go in another direction entirely anyway:
Gailey would certainly bring plenty of coaching experience to the Jets, something Bowles would have perhaps welcomed. The 63-year-old spent two seasons as the Dallas Cowboys head coach from 1998-1999, going 18-14 in that time, and he also spent three years in Buffalo from 2010-2012, leading the Bills to a disappointing 16-32 record. He was, however, able to get some production out of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and maximized running back C.J. Spiller's talent.
He was also the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos for two seasons (1989-1990), the Pittsburgh Steelers for two years (1996-1997), the Miami Dolphins for, you guessed it, two years (2000-2001) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2008). He spent time as a head coach in college, both at Troy State (1983-1984) and at Georgia Tech (2002-2007).
But the Jets also have options, as former head coach Marc Trestman is still available, while Adam Gase may not be able to land a head coaching gig and could be convinced to come to New York now that the Denver Broncos have hired offensive mind Gary Kubiak as their head coach, per Mike Klis of The Denver Post. Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport (via Marc Sessler of NFL.com), however, Gase appears to be a hot commodity, so the Jets would have to pounce quickly to land him.
In other words, if the Jets have any reservations about Gailey, they need not rush into the hire. There are more than a few fish in the offensive coordinator sea.
