Oscar Ruled Out of Brazil Copa America Squad
Sunday, May 10
Oscar was left out of the Brazilian national team for their upcoming Copa America matches, according to the team's official Twitter feed. On May 8, Chelsea's official Twitter account clarified the reasoning, ''Oscar has a thigh injury. We spoke with Dunga and he made the decision it was impossible for him to go to the Copa America.''
The Brazilian's setback arrived not long after he suffered a concussion on April 26 after a collision with Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina, which was documented in images shared on the Chelsea Twitter account:
Oscar has scored six goals and notched eight assists this season in the Premier League, per WhoScored.com, and has been in excellent form throughout the 2014/15 campaign.
Players like Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard have hogged much of the spotlight for the Blues this season, but Oscar has played an understatedly significant role in the No. 10 position.
Indeed, there have been times when the 23-year-old has stepped up when the aforementioned trio have failed to fire, per football writer Dan Levene:
Oscar’s marriage of purpose and poise make him a critical cog in this Chelsea setup. His creative instincts would be tough to replace if he was set to miss extended time with the injury, as would the often unnoticed defensive tenacity he brings to the Blues’ play in advanced areas of the pitch.
