Ranking the Warriors' 10 Best Highlights of the 2014-15 Season So Far

Scott BurnsDec 10, 2014

In somewhat of a surprise, the 19-2 Golden State Warriors hold the best record in the NBA. The team is excelling in the new Steve Kerr offense, but the defense is just as noteworthy.

When you have arguably the game’s best shooter, Stephen Curry, paired with Klay Thompson, Andrew Bogut, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes, there is going to be some offensive magic.

As a result, here are the top 10 best highlights of the 2014-15 season so far. You will definitely be amazed by some of the game-winners, slam dunks and a few gorgeous passes on display.

10. Speights Gets the and-1 Versus the Oklahoma City Thunder

1 of 10

Marreese Speights enters the countdown here in a game where he put the team on his back with 28 points in a 91-86 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on November 23.

On this play, Speights comes over at the top of the arc to set a screen for the ball-handler, Shaun Livingston. As soon as Speights sets it, he moves to the middle of the key to catch the feeder toss from Livingston.

As Speights catches the pass and makes the shot, he is fouled by the Thunder’s Nick Collison. Speights cashes in on the extra attempt.

9. Barnes Drives for the Easy Slam

2 of 10

It was extremely easy for Harrison Barnes to put on a show on this play during the 112-85 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on December 4. He had a huge head start on the sleeping defender.

Curry inbounds the ball from the baseline and tosses it behind Pelicans defender Luke Babbitt. By the time the ball is in Barnes’ hands, Babbitt is still staring at Curry.

Barnes sees the delay from the defender and goes straight to the hole for the easy slam. The crowd goes wild, and the Pelicans call a quick timeout.

8. Curry Goes Behind the Back Twice

3 of 10

Curry has a lot of fun with the basketball in this highlight. At this point in the 112-85 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on December 4, the Warriors have command of the game.

Curry first shows off his defense when he blocks Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday’s shot and then makes the steal. He dribbles up the court, and instead of going into cruise control, he dribbles behind his back.

To add even more sizzle to the play, Curry drives up to the top of the arc and launches a behind-the-back pass to Thompson for the easy three-pointer. It’s beautiful.

7. Bogut Defends Inbound Pass and Green Makes the Game-Saving Steal

4 of 10

The first defensive highlight locks in here on this list. This play really shows how the right amount of effort and positioning can lead to getting the best result in the 98-97 win over the Orlando Magic on December 2.

After Curry hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 2.2 seconds left, the Warriors still had to defend an inbounds pass. Leandro Barbosa made the suggestion to have Bogut guard the ball.

As seen in the video above and also in this tweet by Jim Park of Sheridan Hoops, Bogut is jumping all over to block the inbounds pass and Green is in the perfect position to get the closing steal.

6. The Curry-Bogut Combo

5 of 10

The Curry and Bogut combination is one that Warriors fans should see a lot this season, with both players starting the usual offensive possession closer to the top of the three-point line.

In the 101-88 win over the Utah Jazz on November 21, the two showed how lethal they can be together.

The play starts when Curry runs to Bogut from the wing, and Bogut tosses a behind-the-back pass to him. Bogut then discharges from his spot and runs to the rim, where he is greeted by a sweet lob from Curry for the slam.

When two of the team's best players are in sync on the floor, the Warriors are dangerous.

5. Thompson Fights for the Win in Portland

6 of 10

Thompson continued his hot shooting in the second game of a back-to-back in a 95-90 road win versus the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center on November 2.

The previous night, Thompson put up a career-high 41 points, and he had his chance to keep the Warriors’ season record perfect on that night.

Thompson starts on the opposite-side baseline, where he is being guarded by the Blazers’ Wesley Matthews. Thompson eludes Matthews, then streaks down the baseline, curls around Bogut for a makeshift screen and receives a pass from Andre Iguodala.

Thompson takes one dribble and floats toward the center of the key, where Matthews is still hanging all over him. Thompson hits the floating jumper to give the Warriors a one-point lead, which they hold on to for the win.

It is another example of clutch shooting from a Splash Brother.

4. Curry Hits the 3-Pointer, Then Steals the Inbounds Pass for a Layup

7 of 10

The new rivalry in the Pacific Division between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers is fierce and the teams don’t pull any punches. It is also a chance for two of the premier guards in the Association to go head-to-head.

In the first meeting this season, Curry got the best of Chris Paul in the 121-104 win on November 5. Curry’s 28 points led all scorers, but that tally was definitely helped by this play.

Curry started the play when he received a pass from Bogut and calmly hit a three-pointer. As Curry started to jog back, he saw a lazy inbounds pass play develop, jumped in front of Paul, stole the ball and went for the easy layup.

That is how you score five points in four seconds.

3. Iguodala Goes Coast to Coast

8 of 10

Iguodala was in an early-season funk with the Warriors as he was adjusting to his new sixth-man role. He looked out of sorts, and questions arose over whether or not it was the beginning of his decline.

He answered those critics when the Warriors beat the Brooklyn Nets 107-99 on November 13. Iguodala put on a show at Oracle Arena by taking full responsibility.

In the highlight above, he rebounded the ball on the defensive end and immediately pushed the ball up the floor. When he saw nobody was guarding him until he ran into the Nets’ Deron Williams at the top of the key, Iguodala decided to drive for the bucket.

He deked Williams with his dribble and rose up for the tomahawk slam. The crowd jumped to its feet in celebration of the moment.

2. Thompson Throws Down the Jam

9 of 10

Thompson wanted to put the NBA on notice that he is taking his game to a new level in a 95-90 road win versus the Portland Trail Blazers on November 2.

Thompson gets the ball on the wing with his old teammate, Steve Blake setup to guard him. Thompson makes a quick spin to get himself set and drives right by Blake to the hoop.

Thompson has a free run to the basket, but Blazers' center Robin Lopez shifts off Bogut to try to stop number 11. He doesn't stop for Lopez and goes hard to the rim for the poster shot.

The Warriors had to fight hard the rest of the evening to win the game, and once again, Thompson was there to make the game-winning shot.

This play just shows how Thompson is evolving into a complete NBA player.

1. Curry for the Win!

10 of 10

The top highlight of this young season belongs to the Warriors’ biggest weapon. The Warriors were down by two points in the final seconds of a 98-97 win against the Orlando Magic on December 2 when the highlight above took place.

The Warriors forced a defensive stop, and Curry pulled down the long rebound in a motion going toward the offensive basket. He had a quick decision to make: Should he go for the tie or trust his superior three-point shooting for the win?

Curry drove toward the basket and put a dribble-drive fake on Magic guard Tobias Harris. That fake gave Curry the necessary spacing for a pull-up three and the game-winning basket.

Curry was very happy with the end result, and the Warriors are content in being the top team in the NBA.
