Braves' Asking Price For Upton Revealed
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports on what sort of return the Braves are looking to get for Justin Upton:
"The Braves, according to major-league sources, want more for Upton than they did for Jason Heyward, whom they traded to the Cardinals with reliever Jordan Walden for right-handers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins.
For the Padres, that seemingly would translate to a controllable starter — say, righty Tyson Ross — and a prospect. But the Pads, now that they’re acquiring Kemp, do not want to trade Ross, Ian Kennedy or Andrew Cashner, sources say.

Giants Willing to Trade For Upton?
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports on a specific deal the San Francisco Giants would offer the Braves for Upton:
"The Giants are in trade talks with the Atlanta Braves to acquire All-Star right fielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson, according to three club officials with direct konowledge of the negotiations.
The officials talked only on the condition of anonymity because discussions are on-going. The teams have had preliminary discussions, officials from each club told USA TODAY Sports, but neither club was overly optimistic a deal can be finalized.

Upton Available for High Asking Price
Joel Sherman of the New York Post has new information on Upton's availability:
"The Braves are very much shopping Justin Upton and are requesting a higher return than they received earlier this week when they dealt their other corner outfielder, Jason Heyward.
The Mariners tried to obtain Upton before Arizona traded him to Atlanta during the offseason prior to 2013. But, at that time, Seattle was on his no-trade list. The Mariners are no longer on that list, and they are deep in the kind of pitching prospects that Atlanta wants to add.
However, the interest in Upton is described by a person familiar with the talks as significant, and an executive from another team flatly said, “Justin Upton will be moved.”

Upton Available in Trade Talks
According to a report from Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, “In an age of scarce offense, Upton’s skills are rare and highly valuable. And the teams calling Atlanta about him are seeing that the price will be much higher than what the Braves extracted from St. Louis for Heyward.”
In the Heyward trade, Atlanta acquired pitchers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins. Heyward is scheduled to become a free agent after next season, but the organization decided it was time to move on from the 25-year-old and took the best possible deal.
The Braves are apparently willing to make blockbuster moves this offseason as a way to revamp the roster. The 27-year-old Upton has played well in each of the last two seasons with Atlanta after coming over from the Arizona Diamondbacks via a trade.
Upton hit 27 and 29 home runs, respectively, in the last two seasons and has racked up 172 RBI and a .267 batting average in the 303 games since joining the Braves. Atlanta won the National League East Division in 2013 with Upton leading the way but failed to make the postseason this year.
