Updated 2026 MLB Playoffs Bracket Picture and Standings After Brewers Clinch Berth

The Milwaukee Brewers have punched their ticket to the MLB playoffs for the eighth time in nine years with a 20-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.

The three-time reigning National League Central champions own the league's best record (92-56) and own a 10-game lead on the second-place Chicago Cubs within the division.

The Brewers have clearly found a formula for success in the regular season. Their current run has outlasted a managerial change, the departure of lead executive David Stearns and the exits of key players.

Every year, Milwaukee promotes more homegrown talent to the majors and fills out the roster around the margins.

The overall concern this season is the same as it has been in the past. Put the Brewers up against a franchise with more stars or a far bigger payroll and they could hit their ceiling.

Milwaukee finished four games better than the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2025 regular season, but the NLCS came down to the fact the Dodgers had better top-end talent. Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow combined to allow two earned runs, and Ohtani had four RBI in the series. L.A. swept the NL's No. 1 seed aside.

Jacob Misiorowski had a solid postseason debut, going 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 12 innings, and he has only improved on the mound in 2026. The right-hander is likely headed toward a Cy Young Award.

There isn't another dominant bona fide ace in the rotation, though, and midseason acquisition Dustin May has regressed badly after his trade from the St. Louis Cardinals.

It's a similar story with the offense. Collectively, the Brewers have one of the best lineups in baseball. But the likes of Brice Turang, Jackson Chourio, Jake Bauers and William Contreras are all very good without fully cracking into the elite tier as hitters.

Maybe this is when the stars align for the Brewers, and they've long shed the label of underdogs. They have the second-best World Series odds (+600) at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Should the team miss out on a National League pennant once again, the front office may have to give serious thought to getting aggressive and pushing in some chips to get over the hump.
