Nowitzki Becomes 4th Player to Score 27,000 Points with 1 Team

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 18, 2014

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki reached 27,000 points for his career in Monday's 107-80 beatdown of the Charlotte Hornets, making him just the fourth player in NBA history to score that many points for a single team, per Steve Reed of The Associated Press.

Nowitzki, who was originally selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the ninth overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft, has played each of his 1,199 career regular-season games for the Mavericks following a now-famous trade that brought both him and a young Steve Nash to Dallas.

Sitting at 26,989 career points enter Monday's game, Nowitzki reached the milestone in much the way you would expect—with a mid-range jumper from 18 feet in the third quarter of a comfortable victory.

He would later add a 19-footer, bringing his career total to 27,002 points, before sitting out the entire final quarter.

Now one of just 11 players (including ABA stats) with 27,000 or more career points, Nowitzki joins Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Karl Malone as the only players to score that many for a single team.

Heading into Tuesday's NBA action, Bryant has scored each of his 31,973 points with the Los Angeles Lakers while Jordan scored 29,277 of his 32,292 career points for the Chicago Bulls.

Malone comfortably tops the list for most points with one team, having scored 36,374 of his 36,928 career points in a Utah Jazz uniform.
