Cavaliers Set Franchise Record with 19 Three-Pointers in 1 Game
The Cleveland Cavaliers set a franchise record with 19 successful three-point shots in Saturday's 127-94 win over the Atlanta Hawks, per NBA.com.
The record was largely earned on the strength of a remarkable first quarter in which the Cavaliers made all nine of their three-point attempts. Per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com), it marked the first time since the three-point line was added in 1979-80 that a team made nine or more three-pointers in a quarter without missing a single one.
The Cavs had a 41-25 lead at the end of the quarter, as forward LeBron James led the way with 11 points and a trio of three-pointers. James scored all 11 of those points within the first four minutes, staking Cleveland to an early 14-8 lead with the help of another triple from teammate Kevin Love.
James would eventually finish with four three-pointers made, tying guards Kyrie Irving and Joe Harris for the team lead in the record-setting performance. Love pitched in with three triples, while Shawn Marion, James Jones, Dion Waiters and Will Cherry each contributed one.
According to Basketball-Reference.com's play index, the Cavs previously set the team record of 17 three-pointers in March of 2008 against the New York Knicks and then matched it almost exactly a year later against the Phoenix Suns.
James was the leading scorer in both of those games and again finished with a game-high 32 points in Saturday's blowout victory.
