LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles' Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 10

Matt FitzgeraldNov 10, 2014

The Philadelphia Eagles' offense is built around the running game, but in Week 10 the unit did most of its damage through the air. That didn't necessarily doom fantasy production for LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles, though.

Neither McCoy nor Sproles produced much on the ground, yet both still managed to find the end zone amid Philadelphia's 45-21 dismantling of the Carolina Panthers on Monday.

Sproles also had a punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Despite having an underwhelming season overall compared to the NFL-leading 1,607 yards he ran for last year, McCoy still has to be considered a fantasy RB1.

It's understandable owners would get anxious, though, considering this stat from FoxSports.com's Ryan Fowler:

McCoy broke that above dry spell and had just his second touchdown of the year, but as the temperature dips later in the season, the Eagles are bound to get back to what they do best. Rather quietly, McCoy had averaged 107.5 rushing yards in his previous four contests ahead of Week 10.

In Sproles' case, his fantasy standing is also volatile. In any format, but especially points per reception (PPR), he warrants flex consideration because of his receiving prowess, though Philadelphia hasn't relied on him too often there, as he entered Week 10 with just 20 receptions compared to 71 from a season ago.

As explosive and elusive as both McCoy and Sproles are in the open field, they haven't been as productive as might be expected in coach Chip Kelly's system.

Patience is the virtue to exercise here. In the fantasy spots McCoy (RB1) and Sproles (flex) often occupy, there are few superior alternatives to pick up and plug in at this late stage of the season.
