Joffrey Lupul Suffers Broken Hand

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without veteran winger Joffrey Lupul for the time being due to an injury suffered during a practice session.

According to the Maple Leafs' public relations staff on Twitter, Lupul will sit out Friday's game against Columbus and could be out longer than that:

Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 provides more details on the injury:

Sportsnet's Chris Johnston provided comments from Lupul, who spoke about his injury:

Siegel passed along information from Toronto GM Dave Nonis:

The Maple Leafs have more from Nonis:

The Maple Leafs have gotten off to a slow start this season, currently sitting sixth in the Atlantic Division, and offense has been a problem with just 2.8 goals per game. Lupul may not have been setting the world on fire with just three points, but his two goals are tied for fourth on the team.

Lupul has struggled with consistency throughout his career, though 2013 was a high point with 22 goals and 44 points. Toronto will need to replace that lost production if it wants a shot at competing for a playoff spot this season.
