A.J. Green Will Pair with Andy Dalton for Huge Fantasy Performance

Brian MaziqueOct 31, 2014

A.J. Green looks set to return to the Cincinnati Bengals lineup barring a last-minute setback, and that should lead to a big fantasy performance by him and his quarterback, Andy Dalton.

Green is still listed as questionable, but based on what head coach Marvin Lewis is saying, it would be a surprise if he doesn't play and perform well on Sunday.

It doesn't hurt that he is going up against the Jacksonville Jaguars defense. Green has been battling a bad toe since Week 2. He played in Weeks 3 and 5—the Bengals had a bye in Week 4—but he hasn't played since.

Jacksonville isn't a good football team, and its ineptitude on defense is a primary reason for its struggles. Going into Sunday's game, the Jags are 1-7, and they have the 27th-ranked pass defense in the NFL.

On the road, the Jags pass defense has surrendered 279.5 yards per game. On the season, opposing quarterbacks have thrown 13 touchdown passes, and Jacksonville has just three interceptions.

All of that adds up to a matchup that drastically favors the Bengals, but more specifically, things are looking great for Green and Dalton. When Green has been healthy this year—which has only been three games—he has put up predictably awesome fantasy numbers.

While he does only have two touchdowns, he's averaging 104.6 yards per game if you subtract the Week 2 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Green originally injured his toe very early in this contest, and he wasn't even targeted in the game.

There aren't many fantasy owners who wouldn't take the production he provides when healthy.

With his favorite target presumably back in the lineup, Dalton should be comfortable against a vulnerable defense. Green's presence loosens up coverage underneath, which should give Dalton the chance to complete some short passes.

Running back Jeremy Hill, wide receiver Mohammed Sanu and tight end Jermaine Gresham stand to benefit as well, but the biggest fantasy explosions should be had by Dalton and Green.
