World Series 2014: Latest Odds Heading into Giants vs. Royals Game 7

Scott PolacekOct 29, 2014

The best two words in sports are "Game 7," and that will prove to be the case once again in the final game of the 2014 World Series

Games 7s bring do-or-die pressure, clutch performances that go down in sports history and electric atmospheres that remind fans why they fell in love with sports in the first place. There is also the fact that Wednesday's game will give bettors one final chance to try their luck with baseball this season.

With that in mind, here is a look at the latest odds for Game 7 of the World Series, via Odds Shark on Tuesday evening.

We got to Wednesday's decisive showdown because the Royals took care of home-field advantage in Game 6 with a dominating 10-0 victory. They exploded for seven runs in the second inning, and eight Royals actually tallied a hit in the frame.

That was more than enough for rookie fireballer Yordano Ventura, who pitched seven shutout innings and allowed a measly three hits. Jake Peavy, on the other hand, allowed five runs and six hits in 1.1 innings and never appeared comfortable on the mound.

You may hesitate to bet on the Giants given Kansas City's momentum after the Game 6 win. If that is the case, SportsCenter and ESPN Stats & Info passed along some interesting information that could make you feel even better about any Kansas City bets:

What's more, the squad with home-field advantage has taken home 23 of the last 28 World Series championships, and the previous eight home teams to force a Game 7 by winning Game 6 have won that final contest.

Things seem to be pointing the Royals' way, but that won't mean a thing if starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie struggles on Wednesday.

Guthrie provided some thoughts on Game 7, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

"My memories of a Game 7 probably go back to Jack Morris, '91," he said. "I remember that game, I was 12 years old. So certainly, could appreciate the effort that he gave and the magnitude of that game, to be able to pitch like he did and win the World Series."

Guthrie finished the regular season with a 13-11 record, 4.13 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and .272 batting average against, but his playoff numbers have been incredible in an admittedly small sample size. He is sporting a 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and .194 batting average against in the postseason.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - OCTOBER 24: Tim Hudson #17 of the San Francisco Giants is taken out in the sixth inning while taking on the Kansas City Royals during Game Three of the 2014 World Series at AT&T Park on October 24, 2014 in San Francisco, California.

San Francisco will counter with Tim Hudson in a rematch of the Game 3 matchup that the Royals won, 3-2. Hudson allowed those three runs and four hits in 5.2 innings pitched.

Hudson finished the regular season with a 9-13 record, 3.57 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and .270 batting average against, and he is sporting a 3.72 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and .243 batting average against in the postseason.

However, the overarching storyline for Game 7 is the presence of Madison Bumgarner as a potential bullpen option.

He has been a dominating force for the Giants throughout the playoffs and has a 4-1 record, 1.13 ERA, a ridiculous 0.67 WHIP and .156 batting average against in the postseason. He allowed a combined one run in Games 1 and 5 against the Royals and is the primary reason why Kansas City was unable to win this World Series before a decisive seventh game.

If Hudson shows even the slightest sign of struggle on Wednesday, San Francisco will undoubtedly turn Bumgarner's way. It is certainly a valuable wild card to hold with one baseball game remaining in the season.

While the Giants have the Bumgarner factor, the Royals have the crowd.

The atmosphere was electric from the opening pitch in Game 6, and it clearly played a role by rattling Peavy and seemingly boosting the play of Ventura and the rest of the Royals.

If the Giants do eventually give the ball to Bumgarner, the Royals will need all the help they can get from every single person in Kauffman Stadium.
