Royals vs. Giants: Game 5 Time, TV Info, Live Stream and More

Brian MaziqueOct 26, 2014

Something really rare happened Saturday night. The Kansas City Royals bullpen didn't hold a lead. With Kansas City holding a 4-2 edge heading into the fifth inning, the San Francisco Giants exploded for two runs to even the game.

Royals starter Jason Vargas ran into issues in the inning. Jason Frasor relieved him and surrendered a run that gave the Giants hitters mounds of confidence.

In the sixth inning, San Francisco opened the flood gates. A two-run single by Pablo Sandoval off 21-year-old Brandon Finnegan was the big blow. It gave the Giants a 6-4 lead, and they continued to light Finnegan up.

When his inning was done, Finnegan had allowed five runs, all earned. The Giants avoided a 3-1 hole in the series with the dominating 11-4 win. Looking ahead to the pivotal fifth game, the Giants have to feel great about their chances of seizing control of the series.

With Madison Bumgarner heading to the mound, the Giants' chances look pretty good. Bumgarner has been the most dominant pitcher in the postseason by far. He is 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA since the regular season concluded, and that includes a win over the Royals to open the series.

The Starting Pitchers

Madison Bumgarner vs. James Shields

The pitching matchup for Game 5 is a rematch of Game 1. The Kansas City Royals will be hoping for a better outcome this time. In Game 1, Bumgarner stymied the Royals by allowing just one run through seven innings.

The Giants' bats did their job. They jumped all over James Shields early and often. San Francisco scored five runs on Shields through just three innings of work, and the contest was over before it started.

The 7-1 win got the Giants off to a fantastic start in the series. They will need another great outing from their ace Sunday if the team is to capture an all-important Game 5.
