
Paul Gascoigne Reportedly Placed on Emergency Detox
Paul Gascoigne, who starred for several clubs and the England national team, is receiving support from Tottenham Hotspur after being placed on a three-day detox for emergency purposes.
The Press Association (via the Guardian) reports the 47-year-old longtime midfielder was taken to the hospital around 3 a.m. on Friday after a drinking binge. He's being held for the detox under the Mental Health Act:
"Medics sectioned the 47-year-old under the Mental Health Act at 3 a.m. on Friday after a drinking binge, it was reported on Saturday.
A spokesman for Spurs said: 'We are aware of the situation with Paul and continue to offer our support.'

Former Spurs teammate Gary Mabbutt is quoted in the report stating it's been an ongoing issue for Gascoigne, who sought help.
"Paul hasn't been well for the past couple of weeks, he wants to get better and he's asked for help," he said. "He is being looked after very well—he has got a lot of support around him."
Gascoigne appeared in more than 450 matches across nearly two decades while playing for nine different clubs. His play earned him 57 caps for the national team, where he scored 10 goals. He also had a short stint as manager of Kettering Town after his playing career ended.
