The New York Jets and wide receiver Jeremy Kerley agreed to a four-year contract extension Tuesday, the team announced on its Twitter feed.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed per team policy, but ESPN's Adam Caplan reported the deal is for $16 million, $5.4 million of which comes guaranteed:

Kerley took to Twitter to talk about the deal:

Kerley, who turns 26 on Nov. 8, is in the final year of his rookie contract. The 2011 fifth-round pick is making a base salary of $1.43 million this season, per Spotrac, a number nearly equivalent to what he made his first three NFL seasons (including bonuses).

Kerley is currently third on the Jets in receptions (22) and receiving yards (201), doing most of his work out of the slot. He is coming off a 2013 season in which he led New York in nearly every major receiving category, though he'll primarily work as a third receiver going forward. The Jets have worked to fortify their receiving corps over the past year, first signing Eric Decker in free agency and then acquiring Percy Harvin via trade last week.

After long being near the bottom of the NFL's skill-position rankings, the trio of Decker, Harvin and Kerley give the Jets hope going forward. Well, at least as soon as they figure out that whole quarterback mess.

The 1-6 Jets host division rival Buffalo on Sunday.
