EPL Results Week 8: Premier League Scores, Top Scorers and 2014 Table Tracker
The Premier League lived up to its billing as a division of all-encompassing excitement in Week 8, as teams big and small, star-studded and otherwise brought huge promise to the stage.
Chelsea kept their place at the head of the standings thanks to a 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace, where each side was reduced to 10 men in what proved to be one of the Blues' most difficult tests this season.
Manchester City and Southampton did fine jobs of keeping the west Londoners within grasp in their respective matchups, however, while Arsenal dropped off after a draw at home to Hull City.

Monday's Result
West Brom 2-2 Manchester United
Manchester United were somewhat fortunate to escape the Hawthorns with a point to their name on Monday evening, twice coming from behind to clinch a point against West Brom.
Stephane Sessegnon and Saido Berahino netted for the hosts, while Daley Blind and Marouane Fellaini bagged their first Premier League goals for the Red Devils to provide some joy in the disappointment.

Berahino's goal takes his tally for the campaign up to six, just three behind leading scorers Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero, per WhoScored.com.
After the game, Louis van Gaal was quoted by the Premier League's official Twitter account in dubbing the display United's best of the season so far, but lambasted the team's inability to capitalise:
The result leaves the Red Devils in sixth, taking just 12 points from a possible 24 so far this term, while the Baggies will be far happier with their point, even if it came about in the midst of their own collapse.
Sunday's Results
QPR 2-3 Liverpool
Just as Saturday's drama began with a five-goal thriller at the Etihad Stadium, Loftus Road provided another volley of five as Liverpool were extremely fortunate to escape QPR with a 3-2 victory.

Far from the first time in his career, Richard Dunne scored an own goal to give the visitors the lead, but it was in the game's final instalments that the real action came, with four goals netted in the last seven minutes.
After Eduardo Vargas equalised twice for the Hoops, Steven Caulker also put the ball past his own goalkeeper to let Liverpool off the hook, Brendan Rodgers quoted by Sky Sports in admitting the hosts didn't deserve defeat:
Mario Balotelli again failed to find his scoring touch and will be causing some concern at Anfield, but the three points nevertheless moves Liverpool into the top five for the first time since early September.
QPR, meanwhile, will be distraught after missing out on a point which at one stage looked destined to be theirs, left to lick their wounds at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Stoke City 2-1 Swansea City

The second comeback of the day came to Stoke City, who recovered after falling a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory over Garry Monk's out-of-sorts Swansea City.
Ryan Shawcross gave away a first-half penalty which Wilfried Bony happily converted, but further additions from Charlie Adam and super substitute Jonathan Walters turned the tie in the Potters' favour.
OptaJoe illustrates the Swans' dive-bomb in form since beginning their campaign in such positive fashion:
Both teams now sit level on 11 points apiece, Swansea in eighth while Stoke City will be happy to take a berth in the top half, rising to 10th.
Saturday's Key Results
Manchester City 4-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Five goals at the Etihad Stadium only tells half the tale of the drama that unfolded in City's 4-1 triumph over Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham, with four penalties awarded in the onslaught.

Sergio Aguero slotted home two of those to account for half of his four-goal haul, but the Argentinian also missed from the spot, as did Spurs frontman Roberto Soldado.
Sky Sports News broke down Aguero's Man of the Match-worthy display by the numbers, taking him level with Chelsea's Diego Costa as leading top goalscorer this season, having netted nine in eight outings:
Federico Fazio's sending off proved to be the turning point for Tottenham, who leaked a further two goals after the dismissal, leaving the club with just one win in its last six league games.
After a strong start to the campaign, it's been a mixed bag of results for Pochettino's motley crew of late, and any hopes of cracking the top-four formula look as indecisive as ever.
Southampton 8-0 Sunderland

Ronald Koeman's triumphant reign as Southampton boss saw arguably its best result yet as Southampton trounced Sunderland by eight goals.
Gus Poyet made the trip to England's south coast hoping for an upset, but instead was given a lesson in football. Upon the embarrassment of this defeat, the Uruguayan issued an apology to Sunderland's fans via the club's official website:
"I’m so sorry for the fans, it’s one hell of a trip to make and they were outstanding. They got right behind the team throughout and there are no words I can use that will say sorry to them. I’ve never felt as bad on a football pitch, as a player or as a coach, as I do today. Even as a fan I’ve never felt this way, it’s embarrassing and unacceptable; I’m really hurt.
"
The Blacks Cats supporters will undoubtedly appreciate the sentiment from a man who for the duration of his tenure at the Stadium of Light has always given an impression of compassion and honesty.
However, in Southampton's shadow, the questions might once again be asked of whether Poyet's the right man for the Sunderland helm.
They now sit one point off the bottom three with one league win to their name this season, while Saints are still flying high in third spot and with a goal difference that's just one less than that of leaders Chelsea.
Crystal Palace 1-2 Chelsea

And speaking of the leaders, Chelsea rode the Eagles' storm to emerge from Selhurst Park as 2-1 victors on Saturday—as "ugly" a win as the club have had this term, if it could be called that.
Damien Delaney was sent off for Palace while Cesar Azpilicueta received his marching orders three minutes earlier, both players heading out in the minutes leading up to half-time.
Without Diego Costa, Chelsea weren't as flush with the goals, but Jose Mourinho was full of praise for Cesc Fabregas' finish, per BBC Sport:
Oscar opened the scoring within six minutes before Fraizer Campbell added a late consolation for the south London hosts in what proved to be an acceptable demonstration in damage prevention for Palace.
As long as the results keep coming in, Mourinho won't care much for the manner in which his side win, but the argument is there to state that Chelsea are perhaps too reliant on the powers of hitman Costa.
