Boston Bruins' Patrice Bergeron Records 500th Career Point

Bleacher Report MilestonesOct 28, 2014

Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron recorded the 500th point of his career during Saturday's 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, reaching the milestone with an assist on Carl Soderberg's power-play goal in the first period.

Bergeron, who now has one goal and five assists through 10 games this season, would later add another assist in the third period, bringing his career total to 501 points. He has 184 goals and 317 assists in 10-plus seasons and has spent his entire career with the Bruins.

A 29-year-old former second-round draft pick, Bergeron is one of just 13 players to accumulate 500 or more points in a Boston uniform, joining a group that's led by legendary defenseman Ray Bourque, who tallied a franchise-record 1,506 points.

Bergeron's 184 goals place him just 19th in team history, but his 317 assists are good for 13th place. Meanwhile, his career plus/minus rating of 106 ranks 27th in Bruins history, well below the franchise-record 589 compiled by Hall of Fame defenseman Bobby Orr.

In addition to his impressive individual statistics, Bergeron has enjoyed considerable team success in Boston, reaching the Stanley Cup playoffs in eight of his first 10 seasons, including each of the last seven.

He's offered similar production in the regular season and the playoffs, averaging 0.75 points in 669 career regular-season games and 0.69 points in 95 playoff appearances.

While the numbers are impressive, they fail to capture the entirety of Bergeron's impact, as he's crafted a reputation as one of the league's top two-way players. Accordingly, he won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in both 2011-12 and 2013-14, becoming the eighth player to receive the honor multiple times.
