Shorts Comments on Recovery
Tuesday, Oct. 13
“I feel good, I’m coming along,” Shorts said on Monday, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I’m way ahead of schedule. We’ll see how things go. We’ve got to be smart about it.”
Injury Curse Hinders Shorts' Search for Top Form
After four years with the Jaguars, Shorts signed with the Texans this past offseason. He burst onto the scene in 2012 with 979 yards and seven touchdowns, but has struggled to regain that form.
Prior to the injury, Shorts had a productive Week 4, with 87 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The 2014 campaign was especially difficult for the former Mount Union star, as he missed three games because of injury and ended up with just 53 receptions for 557 yards and a single touchdown.
Staying healthy has been a struggle for Shorts over the years, as he's never played in more than 14 games in a single season. The Texans hoped he could break that trend in 2015, but he was forced out of action once again.
Losing Shorts has been tough for the Texans, since they don't have the type of dynamic talent at wide receiver that fans have grown accustomed to over the years. Andre Johnson was cut by the team and later departed for the Colts, elevating DeAndre Hopkins to the No. 1 role.
That left Shorts to battle it out with Nate Washington and rookie Jaelen Strong as the second option in the passing game.
The Texans have dropped four of their first five games and will need Shorts in action as they look to get back on track in Jacksonville.
