Forsett Misses Second Day of Practice
Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun had the details on Forsett's status:
Although he had fared well in limited opportunities before, it wasn't until this season that Forsett got a realistic opportunity to shine in the NFL. As part of a deep Ravens backfield, the 29-year-old Forsett has made the most of his big shot.
ESPN Stats & Info noted the elite company Forsett was in through Week 6:
Following Forsett's 14-carry, 111-yard performance that week, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh praised Forsett's skills—and his drive to continue improving.
"Justin reads so well. He reads the scheme really well," Harbaugh told reporters. "He's got great vision, is very elusive and hard to tackle. Nobody works harder. He's one heck of a football player."
That early success wasn't a fluke or aberration. Forsett has topped 1,000 yards on the ground and been on a roll as of late, per Bay Area News Group's Jeff Faraudo:
Forsett spent most of his first four years in Seattle, having to back up Marshawn Lynch beginning in 2010. Then he moved on to the Houston Texans, who have had Arian Foster in place as the featured back.
In 2013, a stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars saw Forsett fracture his foot and log just six carries while having to compete with Maurice Jones-Drew for touches.
This year, Forsett is proving he can shine. The Ravens are fortunate to have a deep backfield that consists of Bernard Pierce and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro. They can shoulder the workload if Forsett misses any game action.
Considering he played in all 64 regular-season games from 2009 through 2012, durability shouldn't be too much of a concern for Forsett, provided his current injury doesn't prove to be severe.
The lack of wear and tear on his body should help Forsett produce past the perceptibly daunting age-30 barrier, where modern ball-carriers tend to decline, and could also expedite his recovery.
