Green Bay Packers: Take a Closer Look at the Team Statistics
The 4-2 Green Bay Packers have now won three games in a row after Sunday's exciting 27-24 comeback victory over the Miami Dolphins at hot and humid Sun Life Stadium.
However, one wouldn't expect the Packers to be 4-2 if you just took a quick glance at the team statistics after Week 6 in the NFL.
For example, the Packers are ranked just 26th in total offense in the league, which includes being ranked 20th in passing offense and 24th in rushing offense.

On the other side of the ball, the Packers are ranked 19th in total defense. That includes being ranked fifth in passing defense and 32nd in rushing defense—dead last in the NFL.
After looking at those numbers, one might surmise that the Packers would have a record of 2-4 or maybe worse right now.
But not if you peel back the onion and take a closer look at the statistics.
On offense, Green Bay is ranked eighth in the NFL in scoring, as they have scored almost 27 points a game.
The Packers are also ranked third in the NFL in passer rating with a 108.2 mark, which includes 15 touchdown passes, tied for second in league. The Packers are also tied for third-best in the league in throwing interceptions, as they have thrown only two.
Green Bay is tied for 10th in the league in pass plays of 40 yards or longer, as they have four big plays like that.
The bulk of the credit with those stats has to go to quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is having another MVP-caliber season, as he has thrown 15 touchdown passes compared to just one interception for 1,419 yards. That adds up to a robust 111.4 passer rating.
Some of the credit also has to go to wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who leads the NFL in receiving yardage with 632 yards. No. 87 is also third in the league with 43 receptions.
Nelson is tied for fourth in the NFL in touchdown receptions with five, while his teammate Randall Cobb is second with seven touchdown catches.
In terms of toting the rock in the run game, the Packers have struggled at times but have coughed up the ball just twice on fumbles, which has them tied for the third-best mark in the NFL, while they have four rushing touchdowns.
On defense, Green Bay is ranked high in the NFL in a number of categories in passing defense.

The Packers are ranked second in the league with nine interceptions. The defense is also ranked high in creating total turnovers, as the team has 13, with the nine picks and four fumble recoveries.
The Pack also has the second-best mark defensively in the NFL in passer rating, as they have held opposing quarterbacks to a 72.4 mark.
Green Bay has held teams to just 213.5 yards per game in passing, which is fifth-best in the league. The Packers have also only allowed seven touchdown passes, the sixth-best mark in the NFL.
The bottom line is the Packers definitely need to improve their play in running the football well consistently and also in stopping the run.
But all things considered, the team has done well in a number of statistical areas on both offense and defense after a closer look.
And that is a big reason why the Packers are 4-2 and have won three games in a row.
