Orioles vs. Royals: Game 3 Time, TV Info, Live Stream and More

Sean ODonnellOct 13, 2014

The Kansas City Royals weren't supposed to make it this deep into October. After all, the team was average at the plate during the regular season and lacked any kind of power, finishing 30th in total home runs. While Kansas City was consistent on defense, its average rotation lacked sufficient depth.

Well, that hasn't exactly been the case in the playoffs.

Not only have the Royals discovered the long ball, but combined with speed on the bags and solid play out of the bullpen, this is suddenly a very well-rounded team. That has become an apparent fact, as Kansas City leads the Baltimore Orioles 2-0 in the American League Championship Series after earning two huge road victories.

Preview and Prediction

The Royals have shown an abundance of resilience through two games in Baltimore. Kansas City notched two home runs in the 10th inning to take Game 1 and followed it up with a two-run ninth inning to win Game 2.

Baltimore certainly hasn't been bad at the plate, earning a total of 10 runs over two games, but issues on the mound have plagued the Orioles. In Game 1, Chris Tillman lasted just 4.1 innings, giving up five runs in the process. That trend continued in Game 2 when Bud Norris gave up a total of four runs in 4.1 innings.

While Kansas City's starting pitching hasn't been overwhelming either, the team's bullpen has picked up the slack in a big way. Reliever Wade Davis has been fantastic through two games, pitching three scoreless innings and earning two wins along the way. Meanwhile, Darren O'Day hasn't been able to duplicate that feat for Baltimore, losing both games in the process.

Here's a look at Davis' prowess, via MLB:

Game 3 features Wei-Yin Chen on the mound for Baltimore and Jeremy Guthrie for Kansas City. While that matchup gives the Orioles the pitching advantage, the Royals have the upper hand in momentum, confidence, relief pitching, consistency at the plate, baserunning and, above all, home-field advantage in front of a psyched-up crowd.

After all, fans in attendance in Kansas City know what's at stake, and the Royals know it, via Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports:

Expect the Royals to take full advantage of all these aspects and put the Orioles on the brink of elimination with a Game 3 victory.

Prediction: Royals 7, Orioles 5
