Germany vs. Ireland: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Gianni VerschuerenOct 13, 2014

Ireland will take on world champions Germany in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday, as they'll look to exploit the potential weaknesses that were revealed about Die Mannschaft in their 2-0 loss to Poland.

The hosts should (rightfully) be big favourites going into the match, but while one poor match isn't enough to start doubting the world champions, Poland made it very clear this team isn't as strong as the one that marched through the 2014 World Cup just months ago.

Joachim Low will want his squad to make a statement at home, while Roy Keane has already expressed confidence in his team, who have yet to drop a single point in qualifiers. No matter what, Tuesday's meeting should make for a great match.

To say Germany were shocked when they left the pitch against Poland would be an understatement. Die Mannschaft had dozens of good chances and hardly gave up any shots on goal, but after 90 minutes, the Poles had notched a 2-0 win.

The hosts defended extremely well with 10 men (Kamil Glik deserves special mention) and did a superb job of not biting on the many cuts inside from the German wingers. Instead, they attacked the spaces, trusting their goalkeeper to deal with the many shots from outside the box.

Ireland defend with the same intensity, and Jan Aage Fjortoft believes it's the last team Germany will probably want to face right now:

Ireland may not have a striker like Robert Lewandowski in the squad, but they have the speed out wide to trouble Germany's host of inexperienced full-backs. The hosts love to defend with a high line, something both Poland and Scotland have taken advantage of during qualifiers.

The counter-attack can be a powerful weapon for Ireland, and Keane knows it. As shared by Purely Football, he even believes his team can win:

That said, Germany's loss against Poland looked more like a fluke than some kind of monumental shift. Thomas Muller and Karim Bellarabi missed a multitude of chances—that simply doesn't happen very often.

Ireland can get a result from the Veltins-Arena, but they'll have to be perfect to get past Germany who still field the best team in the world. After such a disappointing loss, expect the hosts to be keen on proving they're still the team to beat.

Prediction: Germany 2-0 Ireland
