Estonia vs. England

LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 09: Wayne Rooney of England (10) celebrates as he scores their second goal from the penalty spot during the EURO 2016 Group E Qualifying match between England and San Marino at Wembley Stadium on October 9, 2014 in London, Engla

England couldn’t have possibly asked for a better start to their Euro 2016 qualification campaign, having breezed to victories over Switzerland and San Marino, but they’ll need to keep their wits about them when they travel to Estonia on Sunday evening.

The Estonians have never qualified for a major tournament in their history, but in a generous-looking group, they’ll fancy their chances this time around.

However, after an impressive opening victory against Slovenia, Magnus Pehrsson’s side slipped up away at Lithuania on Thursday—although that does mean they’ll be geared up for redemption against the Three Lions.

That’ll undoubtedly be a tough task for Estonia, though, as the new-look England have a certain spring in their step after a post-World Cup shake-up.

LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 09: Danny Welbeck of England celebrates scoring their third goal as goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini of San Marino looks dejected during the EURO 2016 Group E Qualifying match between England and San Marino at Wembley Stadium on Octobe

It’s been a case of out with the old and in with the new for Roy Hodgson, and the kids are alright!

Seven goals scored and none conceded from their opening two fixtures reflects a strong start for England despite having to play minnows San Marino, which ex-England striker Gary Lineker labelled a boring encounter for everyone but the frontmen:

The strikers certainly took their chances, though, with Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck both getting on the scoresheet in an easy encounter at Wembley.

Estonia will pose a different threat, though, and that’s something that Hodgson is very aware of, per Sky Sports:

"

I would be a bit wary of putting Estonia in the same category as San Marino. They might surprise people who haven't seen a lot of them. They're very Scandinavian in their approach, and you know how good the Swedes, Norwegians and Danes have been in terms of work ethic and organisation. It will be a bit of a test, but I'm very confident we'll see it through.

Should England find a way to victory then two of Group E’s potential banana skins, trips to Switzerland and Estonia, will have been sidestepped.

It’ll all likely come down to whether or not Hodgson gets his game plan right, but he’s proven during his time in the England hot seat that he knows how to negotiate results against tricky opponents.

We’ve seen some shocks in qualifying so far, but Sunday’s clash isn’t likely to be one, as England should run out comfortable victors.

Prediction: Estonia 0-2 England

Iceland vs. Netherlands

Life under Guus Hiddink hasn’t quite gone according to plan for the Netherlands so far, but having chalked up their first victory under new management against Kazakhstan on Friday, the Dutch are now ready to kick on.

It wasn’t the convincing victory you may have expected, though, as late goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Ibrahim Afellay and Robin van Persie broke brave Kazakh hearts in a 3-1 victory.

The 4-3-3 formation appeared to work for Hiddink, and he’ll likely deploy that once again in Reykjavik, though Iceland’s recent form will give the hosts plenty of encouragement.

After kicking off their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win over Turkey, Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side produced the goods once again in Latvia by recording an identical result on Friday.

Sitting top of Group A, it’s all looking rosy for Iceland, and their recent home form will do nothing but enhance their confidence.

As SoccerWay’s statistics reveal, Iceland have lost just one of their last seven internationals at Laugardalsvollur, winning five matches in that time and keeping five clean sheets.

It all adds up to a fiery encounter in the Icelandic capital, although the hosts’ strong defensive record may be under threat with the Dutch in town—per OptaJohan:

If the likes of Arjen Robben and Van Persie are firing on all cylinders then it could be a fruitful evening for the Dutch, but as the qualification campaign has already taught us, nothing can be taken for granted.

Prediction: Iceland 1-2 Netherlands
