Breaking Down the Main Event
There are several matches on the Bound For Glory card that are worthy of being the main event, but the bout most deserving of the top billing is the tag team battle between the Great Muta and Tajiri and James Storm and the Great Sanada.
Sanada arrived in the United States earlier this year as the top student and representative for the Great Muta’s Wrestle-1 promotion in TNA. After being told by Muta that he was carrying the weight of Japanese wrestling in America on his shoulders, Sanada won the X Division Championship and was one of the best performers in the company.
For weeks, Storm mentally and physically abused Sanada until the champion finally lost the title and began showing signs that he could be sympathizing with his foe. It wasn't until the attack from Sanada on the Great Muta on Impact Wrestling, though, that it became clear Bound For Glory's main event would feature the teacher and student finally going head-to-head.
With a new personality and mindset, Storm dubbed his protege the Great Sanada, and the two men became a heel tag team.
Storm and the Great Sanada have tormented the TNA roster over the past several weeks and continued building their heel stable. After beating down Manic following a match, the two men re-introduced him as the third member of their group.
Now, the heel tag team of Storm and the Great Sanada will take on Sanada’s mentor, the Great Muta and the wildcard Tajiri in the BFG main event. Muta is one of the biggest stars of all time in Japan, and squaring off against the Great Sanada will be a huge rub for the younger star.
The hope is that this match is just a vehicle to pass the torch from Muta to Sanada and officially call him the Great Sanada. Wrestling in the United States has been a feather in the cap of Sanada, and when he eventually returns to Japan, he will have the experience and notoriety to be a top star in Muta’s Wrestle-1 promotion.
Storm’s presence in this storyline has been pivotal to Sanada’s heel turn, but Sunday’s main event will be focused on the storyline between the teacher and his defiant student. With building to the future in mind, Storm and Sanada must get the win at Bound For Glory.
While a convoluted finish would allow Sanada to get he win over Muta and give credence to a possible rematch down the line, a definitive victory over Muta would give Sanada instant credibility as one of the top Japanese wrestlers today.
Not only will this match entertain the fans lucky enough to witness the action, but it will also serve the purpose of proverbially passing the torch from the Great Muta to the Great Sanada. This will be an unforgettable moment for wrestling fans.
Predicted Winners: Storm and the Great Sanada
