Mitch McGary's promising collegiate career ended with an injury, and it appears life in the NBA will begin in a similar fashion.
In the midst of tallying 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in his debut with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Michigan product reportedly suffered a foot injury. The Oklahoman's Darnell Mayberry provided the details:
McGary's NBA stock skyrocketed during a transcendent NCAA tournament performance as a freshman, but we haven't seen much of him since—he played in eight games in November and December during his sophomore year before succumbing to a back injury.
He impressed during Summer League, though, and is back to full health in time for the preseason, per ESPN's Royce Young:
That makes the timing of this injury particularly frustrating.
If the injury isn't severe, McGary's physical play, prowess on the glass and sneaky mid-range game will help him push Kendrick Perkins and Steven Adams for minutes as a rookie.
Should the injury sideline him for a significant amount of time, however, it will make it difficult for him to crack the rotation early in the season.
