Tigers vs. Orioles: Game 2 Time, TV Info, Live Stream and More
One Cy Young Award winner down, two more to go for the Baltimore Orioles in their American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers.
The Orioles handled the Tigers in Game 1 to the tune of 12-3 and will now try to capitalize on home-field advantage again during a Friday matinee. Detroit is sending the past three American League Cy Young Award winners to the hill in the first three games, but Max Scherzer couldn’t get the job done Thursday.
Justin Verlander will give it a try Friday, while David Price will go in Game 3.

The final score of Game 1 was definitely head-turning, but it doesn’t exactly tell the whole story.
Baltimore led by the narrowest of margins, 4-3, going into the bottom of the eighth, but the flood gates then broke open. Scherzer ended up with five earned runs on the game, while Joakim Soria allowed four of his own, as Baltimore scored eight times in the frame to push the lead to 12-3.
The Orioles probably would have been better off saving some for Friday.

The bullpen is a serious issue going forward for the Tigers, but there is reason for optimism with Verlander taking the ball. Bob Wojnowski of the Detroit News and Jordan Strack of WTOL-11 seemed to have the glass half-full approach:
It is key for other guys in the Baltimore lineup to step up against Verlander with Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Matt Wieters all out, and that is exactly what happened Thursday. Nelson Cruz and J.J. Hardy both homered, much to the delight of ecstatic Baltimore fans.

Elsewhere, the bullpen was clearly part of the story Thursday, and it could be a theme going forward in this series. Detroit’s struggled mightily, while Baltimore should be set with Zach Britton, Andrew Miller, Darren O’Day and Tommy Hunter.
Realistically, Verlander needs to turn in a formidable performance just to let his bullpen mentally recover from Thursday’s game.

Baltimore will counter with Wei-Yin Chen, who finished with a 16-6 record and 3.54 ERA this year, despite giving up more hits than innings pitched. Chen discussed his role, via Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun: “I will just try to stay calm and focus on my part again. Try to get hitters out and not thinking about too much. I don't want to think about anything that I wouldn't do in the season, and that's how I'm trying to stay focused.”
Chen didn’t actually face Detroit this year but does have a 1-0 record with a 4.91 ERA in his career against the Tigers.
Still, Verlander is lights out in the ALDS in his career. Per his Baseball Reference page, he is 4-0 with a 1.79 ERA, .926 WHIP and 60 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched. The Tigers need their former ace to come through, otherwise they are staring at a difficult 2-0 hole.
Verlander has proven it in the past in the ALDS, and he will do it again Friday.
Prediction: Tigers 4, Orioles 3
