La Liga Fixtures 2014 Week 7: Schedule, Live Stream Info, Picks and Key Players

Rory MarsdenOct 2, 2014

Reigning champions Atletico Madrid face a tough challenge in Week 7 of La Liga as they travel to Valencia, a side who are currently tied on 14 points with Diego Simeone's side.

Only Barcelona currently sit above those two teams courtesy of the 16 points Luis Enrique's side have claimed from their first six games and the Catalan giants will look to make it 19 points at Rayo Vallecano this weekend.

Real Madrid—who have already lost twice this season—will look to pick up all three points as they host a struggling Athletic Bilbao side on Sunday evening.

Key Players

Neymar, Barcelona

While Barcelona have been almost flawless in La Liga so far this season—conceding no goals and dropping just two points in their opening six games—they come into Saturday's match away to Rayo Vallecano on the back of a European defeat.

They were unexpectedly downed by Paris St-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday—per Guillem Balague on Bleacher Report UK—and will be looking to bounce back immediately:

The ultimate response would be a drubbing similar to the one they handed to Granada last time out in the league, when they won 6-0.

On that occasion, Brazilian superstar Neymar bagged a hat-trick, and he truly is a player in form this season, having scored six league goals in five games, per WhoScored.com

Although he performed well in his first season at Barca in 2013-14, he was inconsistent.

However, his fine World Cup form seems to have continued into this term and he should be able to find the net against a Rayo side who have conceded 10 goals in six games so far.

Miranda, Atletico Madrid

MADRID, SPAIN - SEPTEMBER 13: Diego Godin (#2) Guilherme Siqueira and Joao Miranda of Atletico de Madrid celebrate after beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the La Liga match between Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on September 13,

Diego Simeone's side face a tough test this weekend with their trip to Valencia, a side who have yet to lose in La Liga and who have scored fewer only than Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Atleti faced a similar conundrum last time out with the visit of Sevilla—then unbeaten—but thrashed them 4-0, per ESPN's Dermot Corrigan:

However, they are playing Valencia away from home at the Mestalla Stadium where Nuno Espirito Santo's men have bagged nine goals in three matches.

Thus, Atletico's defence will be key and hence, Miranda will have to be at the top of his game in marshalling the back line and snuffing out any Valencia attacks.

They have conceded just once on the road this season with Miranda performing well as he has started every game.

He may also be prove a threat in the goalscoring department, having bagged three goals already this season. It should be a highly entertaining game with two of the league's form sides going head-to-head, but for Atleti to prevail, Miranda needs to be on top form.
