Charles Suffers Bruised Knee
Jamaal Charles may be one of the best players in the NFL, but he is having terrible luck in the injury department in 2014.
Charles, 27, suffered a bruised knee in the team's loss to the Denver Broncos, Andy Reid confirmed on Monday, via BJ Kissel of KCChiefs.com and Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star:
This latest setback is particularly worrisome because of how dominant Charles can be as a featured running back. He proved it when he ran for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2013 and added 693 receiving yards and seven touchdowns through the air.
In 2012, he finished with a head-turning 1,509 rushing yards and five touchdowns and another touchdown through the air.
Charles essentially missed all of Week 2 after suffering an ankle injury. He missed Week 3 as a result before bouncing back against the New England Patriots in Week 4.

This latest news may open the door further for Knile Davis, who has played admirably in Charles’ absence and already carved out a larger role for himself. He racked up 132 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins and caught the eyes of fantasy football players everywhere.
Charles’ injury struggles in 2014 are somewhat surprising considering his durability in the past. He played in either 15 or 16 games in every year of his career except for 2011, when he played in only two games due to a torn ACL.
The Chiefs made the playoffs last season and are looking to return in an AFC that is wide open behind the Denver Broncos and the Cincinnati Bengals.
It is difficult to envision Kansas City making the playoffs without a productive Charles, since he is the best player on the roster and one of the most dangerous players in the NFL. The hope now is that he is healthy in the near future and still able to produce like the dominant player that he is for the Chiefs.
Their 2014 season may depend on it.
