5 Concepts for Shows That Would Help Diversify the WWE Network
The WWE Network has offered a small amount of original content, but it's not enough for many people to pay the monthly fee to subscribe, even if they do get every pay-per-view included.
Legends House was funny to some degree, and WWE has always been great at making documentaries about its Superstars, but there is still a major lack of new shows being introduced.
With everything WWE has at its disposal, there are a lot of different things it could add to its streaming service to entice more people to pick up a subscription.
The shows would have to be about wrestling in one form or another, but there are many different ways to feature the plethora of talent WWE has in its employ.
This slideshow will look at five shows that could be added to the WWE Network lineup that would give Superstars a new stage to shine on as well as add some variety to the network.
WWE Download: The 30-Minute Edition
1 of 6Dolph Ziggler hosted a very popular YouTube show on WWE's channel called WWE Download. It was basically a clone of shows like The Soup and Tosh.0, but Ziggler brought his own brand of charisma to the concept.
Why WWE chose to end the show is a mystery, but it could find new life on the WWE Network as a full 30-minute weekly broadcast.
Ziggler would be the best candidate to host since he did such a good job the first time around, but he's not the only WWE Superstar with a sense of humor.
Different hosts could be cycled in week after week, or WWE could have Ziggler serve as the main host while others were brought in as a partner on a rotating basis.
With all the ridiculous things people film themselves doing, there would be no end to the amount of content that could be used on the show, but more focus should be put on funny things from wrestling's past instead of just featuring regular people doing stupid things.
This show would appeal to WWE's main demographic, and it would give subscribers something to watch on the channel besides wrestling, Legends House and Total Divas.
Wrestling Roundup
2 of 6WWE has had a Spanish language show on YouTube called WWE En Espanol for quite some time. It's hosted by Carlos Cabrera and Marcelo Rodriguez, and it takes a look at what went on during the week on all of WWE's major shows.
Wrestling Roundup would be something similar except it would be in English so the majority of WWE's fans could enjoy it.
Renee Young would be the best choice to host the show. She is knowledgeable, charismatic and clearly loves the sport. She could have a regular co-host or bring in different people each week to provide a new perspective.
It would be especially helpful if WWE Legends were brought in to co-host the show to give some insight from their years in the business.
The pre- and post-shows WWE has tried to run with Raw and SmackDown have not caught on the way many had hoped, but having one weekly show where everything is recapped would be much easier to swallow.
This would be more like a Sports Center panel show where everything is discussed, unlike This Week in WWE which just shows some recap videos with a little bit of voice-over done by Scott Stamford.
The Next Generation
3 of 6As was stated earlier, WWE is great at making documentaries about its wrestlers that showcase what it is that makes them special. It's about time the men and women of NXT got the same treatment.
Many of the talents in NXT have long histories in the business, especially some of the recent signings like Hideo Itami and Finn Balor, better known to many as Kenta and Prince Devitt, respectively.
Sami Zayn made a name for himself as El Generico, Adrian Neville excited audiences far and wide as Pac and Kevin Steen was a fan favorite among Ring of Honor fans.
Based on past docu-style features on The Shield and CM Punk, we know WWE is willing to license footage from smaller promotions to show some of the matches that helped get those Superstars in the WWE door.
Having a monthly release highlighting a specific NXT star would give fans a greater appreciation of his or her talent, and it would help increase the name recognition of those featured Superstars before they even make it up to the main roster.
It's safe to say that most fans barely keep track of what is going on outside of WWE, making this concept a great way to help educate them on why these people were signed in the first place.
How to Live Like a Superstar
4 of 6WWE Superstars are some of the best athletes in the world, but it takes more than lifting a few weights and eating right to get to that level.
How to Live Like a Superstar would be a lifestyle show about how the men and women of WWE live on a daily basis.
Each week could show how a different wrestler works out, what their diet consists of and how they live on the road without their families and comfy beds.
Aspects of shows like MTV Cribs could be added to increase the entertainment value, but the main focus of the show would be about how these Superstars and Divas stay in such great shape while putting their bodies on the line 200 or more days out of the year.
Some of WWE's DVD releases have included things like this, and it always adds to the overall experience when you get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into a Superstar's life.
WWE Trivia Challenge
5 of 6Just about everyone loves a good game show. Why not have one that focuses specifically on pro wrestling trivia? All the tools to make this happen are already part of the company; it's just a matter of putting it all together.
WWE has a lot of broadcasters and charismatic Superstars who could serve as host, and it owns the staging equipment and cameras to make up a good set to film it on.
WWE.com already has something called Outthink the Fink where fans can test their knowledge against the brain of Howard Finkel, but it's never really been a game show-type event.
Wrestlers could square off against fans in a battle to see who truly knows the most about WWE and its history, or it could simply be fans competing against one another. With the amount of history in WWE, there are an endless number of categories and questions to fill up the program.
It could either be a team-based affair, or it could be every person for themselves. There are so many game-show formats to draw from in order to make this seem familiar while also being original to the WWE Network.
The show could be filmed at WWE's weekly television tapings or at live events. Fans could be chosen randomly by their seat numbers or they could qualify ahead of time through WWE's website.
There are a lot of ways to structure the show, but in the end, what's important is that it would provide a great deal of entertainment and give fans an added incentive to attend WWE events.
Prizes for the winners would likely consist of WWE merchandise, but they could also go the route of offering cash prizes or trips to big pay-per-view events.
Be honest. Wouldn't you love to test your knowledge against other fans and Superstars in order to win cash and prizes? Wouldn't you like the opportunity to be featured on the WWE Network?
It's All About Content
6 of 6This is the third and final slideshow in this series of WWE Network ideas. The first was posted in 2011 when the WWE Network was still just an idea, and the second was posted in 2013 when it was becoming a reality.
Some of the ideas in those slideshows actually ended up being made into shows that go by different names, but the concepts were almost identical.
Real Housewives of WWE became Total Divas, and a few others were pretty darn close to some of the specials WWE has been running since launching the network. This is not saying WWE saw those articles and copied the ideas but rather highlighting how different concepts are becoming a reality thanks to the WWE Network.
There is no denying that more original content is the only way WWE can get more people to purchase the network. It's just a matter of finding what works and what doesn't.
What do you think? Would any of the ideas listed in this slideshow be things you would watch? What ideas do you have for shows that could thrive on the WWE Network?
