Top Contenders Who Deserve a Shot at Brock Lesnar's WWE Title
Unless John Cena is going to get a third consecutive match against Brock Lesnar, it's time to start looking at who else deserves a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Lesnar has been booked as a nearly unbeatable champion, and while some of those who deserve a shot at the belt might not be worthy of defeating Lesnar, there are plenty of big names who could put on a great marquee match with The Beast Incarnate.
Some of the names on this list will have faced Lesnar in the past, but most of the roster is filled with wrestlers who have never been in the ring with him. This greatly increases the possibility for some fresh matchups.
There's really no telling how long Lesnar will hold the title, so WWE should try to get as many different combinations out of the situation as it can to get its money's worth.
Before we get into the list of possible challengers, there is something that should be made clear. Anyone who is currently out due to an injury will not be included, meaning names like Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns are out of luck.
Let's take a look at some of the most likely candidates for a future shot at Lesnar's title.
Big Show
1 of 5Let's make one thing clear right off the bat: Big Show is not going to beat Brock Lesnar for the title. However, that doesn't mean he isn't a perfect candidate for a title shot.
Lesnar and Big Show have history dating back to Lesnar's first run in WWE, which is something very few Superstars on the roster can claim.
The iconic moment where they broke the ring with a super-sized superplex has been played over and over throughout the years, making it a moment that fans know about, even if they weren't old enough to remember when it actually occurred.
Putting these two back in the ring would be smart for a few reasons. Not only does Big Show have the size and power to take away Lesnar's dominance, but he is also a former "Paul Heyman guy."
This might not be a WrestleMania main event, but it is definitely a match that can headline one of the B-level pay-per-views.
They had a short match at the 2014 Royal Rumble, but Lesnar attacked Big Show with a chair before the bell rang. This gives Big Show a perfect reason to be looking for some vengeance.
Besides, he's due for his annual main event push.
Sheamus
2 of 5Lesnar and Sheamus have a lot more in common than people may realize. Not only are both men powerhouses, but they are the two of the only people who won the WWE Championship within a few months of their initial debut with the company.
Lesnar likes to claim that he is the only legitimate fighter in WWE today, and everyone knows Sheamus loves to fight. It's like a match made in heaven.
Out of all the people on the roster who have never faced Lesnar, Sheamus is one of the few who can provide a believable challenge to Lesnar's title reign.
Like Big Show, Sheamus is probably not the guy who is going to take the belt away from the champ, but that doesn't mean they can't deliver a brutal, hard-fought match to excite the crowd.
Sheamus would likely need to drop the United States Championship before pursuing the top title in the company, but it's not a requirement. All that matters is that this would be very violent and highly entertaining, just like a good title match should be.
Randy Orton
3 of 5Randy Orton likes to occasionally bring up the fact that he is still owed a title match by The Authority, putting him in a prime position to challenge Lesnar for the title some time in the near future.
Orton and Lesnar are polar opposites inside the ring. Lesnar like to go full-steam ahead with hard-hitting offense and brutal violence, whereas Orton plays mind-games and uses a lot more precision with his attacks.
The great thing about this combination is that the storyline practically writes itself. The Authority has endorsed Lesnar as champion, which gives WWE two options.
Either Lesnar becomes uncontrollable and Triple H uses Orton to try and dethrone him as champion, or Orton becomes jealous of the favoritism being shown to Lesnar and goes out on his own to get back the title he believes is rightfully his.
There's really no downside to this bout. It could headline any PPV, it would be a completely fresh matchup and there are a lot of paths that can be taken to get to the match itself.
If Orton is not in the running for a shot at Lesnar's title before he ends up eventually losing it, then something is seriously wrong with the creative department in WWE.
Seth Rollins
4 of 5If it weren't for the Money in the Bank briefcase, Seth Rollins probably wouldn't have ended up on this list.
When Rollins came out and tried to cash in his title shot on Lesnar after costing John Cena the title at Night of Champions, you could feel how badly the crowd wanted to see it happen.
A traditional match would almost certainly end with the destruction of Rollins at the hands of Lesnar, but they don't have to face each other in a traditional match.
A great way to even the playing field between the two would be to put them in a Ladder or Tables, Ladders and Chairs match. The annual TLC PPV is conveniently right around the corner.
The storyline is already there, it just has to be enacted. Lesnar would want revenge for being attacked by Rollins at Night of Champions, and Rollins could choose to claim his title shot in a TLC match instead of using the tactic of attacking someone when they are already beaten up.
WWE could keep both men looking strong by having Dean Ambrose cost Rollins the match, making it so their feud continues and Lesnar stays champion. It might be copy-and-paste booking, but it would lead to an original match a lot of people would be very excited to see.
Cesaro
5 of 5If anyone deserves a shot at Lesnar and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship based on skill alone, it's Cesaro. Few Superstars are as talented and well-rounded as the Swiss Superman, but there is more to him than technical prowess and a sick European uppercut.
As a former Heyman guy, Cesaro has a legitimate gripe with the world's greatest advocate for dropping him as a client in order to manage Lesnar again. This makes writing the feud very easy for the creative team.
But wait, there's still more. Cesaro has proven that he has the kind of power required to match up with anyone on the roster, the technical ability needed to wrestle anyone to the mat and the kind of exciting offense that can get a crowd on their feet in the blink of an eye.
Putting Lesnar in the ring with Cesaro would give us a totally original match, and it would elevate Cesaro to the main-event level he has deserved to be at for quite some time. There's no downside.
Even if he doesn't win the title from Lesnar, he would still gain quite a bit just by being able to stand toe-to-toe with one of the most dominant champions we have ever seen. In the end, everyone wins.
These five men are just a few of the Superstars who would make great challengers for Lesnar's title, but everyone has their own opinion on the subject. Share your favorite picks in the comment section below.
