Absence of Several WWE Stars Will Ensure Rise to Prominence for Cesaro

Aaron BowerSep 23, 2014

Of all the stars currently languishing in the middle of the card in the WWE, there is perhaps nobody with a greater sense of injustice regarding their position on the roster than Cesaro.

The ups and downs Cesaro has endured over the last nine months have been nothing short of astonishing. At the beginning of the year, he was stuck in a tag team that was going nowhere before a game-changing match with John Cena seemed to bring him to the forefront of everyone's mind.

Calls for a push quickly followed, and to an extent, that push actually materialized.

Winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX seemed to be only the start, as the WWE had a true main event star on its hands.

However, as we know, the proposed face turn that many expected to happen never occurred, and Cesaro has since suffered from chronic mismanagement by the WWE.

But with a few openings starting to appear in the upper echelons of the WWE roster, is now the time for Cesaro to finally get that deserved push?

After all, his match against Sheamus at Night of Champions was one of the most enjoyable contests—if not the most enjoyable contestof the entire night. He has a technical ability like few others in the WWE, and he seems to be less reliant on a basic repertoire of moves than almost every other top star.

Sheamus played his part in a compelling match at Night of Champions, but this really was all about Cesaro.

In fact, that's exactly what you could say about that match against Cena all the way back in February. Cesaro seemed to bring a level of entertainment out of Cena that few people have been able to do. That indicates just what a talent he is.

With Chris Jericho now departing following his defeat to Randy Orton on pay-per-view and Roman Reigns out of action for at least a few months, Cesaro's push needs to happen now.

It's understandable if the WWE wanted to wait for a proper opening to give him his push, but that window of opportunity is now.

This isn't to say he'd beat him by any stretch of the imagination, but a babyface Cesaro could get on such a run that he'd be in a position to be a legitimate challenger to Brock Lesnar a few months down the line. Imagine how brutally fantastic a match that could be.

His victory at WrestleMania XXX has almost been completely forgotten, which is bizarre given the significance of the match. It's incredible that WWE fans are still buying into Cesaro, despite his TV time becoming more and more limited by the week.

That tells you all you need to know about his popularity. It's a crime that his patented swing maneuver has been dropped too, because it generated enormously favorable reactions from WWE crowds.

With two seriously huge babyfaces now away from the company for a significant period of time, someone is inevitably going to be set for a push up the card. If it isn't Cesaro, it may well rank as one of the biggest mistakes in the WWE's recent history.
