Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 3

Nate LoopSep 21, 2014

The Pittsburgh Steelers clearly like to run the ball, but that doesn't seem to affect the production of No. 1 wide receiver Antonio Brown. He continued his fine start to the 2014 season on Sunday in his team's convincing Week 3 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

It appeared wide receiver Markus Wheaton was all set to join him for a big day in fantasy football when he contorted his body and latched on to a Ben Roethlisberger bullet in the front corner of the end zone early in the contest.

However, the officials ruled that he failed to reestablish himself in bounds and called the pass incomplete. Bleacher Report's Ty Schalter summed up the reaction to the suspect ruling:

Instead, Wheaton ended with a pedestrian receiving night.

Here are the final stat lines for the wideouts from Week 4:

Wheaton's overall performances have dipped from his sterling Week 1 showing against the Cleveland Browns, and his production will likely vary alongside Roethlisberger's.

Brown seems to attract targets from Roethlisberger at the expense of his teammates, which is an excellent sign for fantasy owners. According to ESPN Stats & Info, however, there is a good reason for this:

While Brown reached double digits in catches, tight end Heath Miller tied Wheaton for second on the team with four.

Roethlisberger's yardage has dipped since his Week 1 outburst, but he's still an efficient quarterback. Brown is a lock for a starting WR1 spot as long as he is healthy. He's posted at least 90 receiving yards in all three games this season and has three scores on the young season.

Wheaton will continue to lurk in the shadows and could be useful as a flex option against Pittsburgh opponents with vulnerable secondaries, such as the Jacksonville Jaguars (Week 5) and Cleveland Browns (Week 6).
