Andrea Pirlo's Top 5 Moments with AC Milan in His Career
The 35-year-old Andrea Pirlo has had a career most players could only dream of. Multiple Champions League titles, a World Cup trophy and a host of other Scudetti and Coppa Italia wins.
For most of these sides that won the titles, Pirlo was their focal point in the midfield, orchestrating the attack and creating incredible chances for his teammates with his surgically precise passing.
He has been a visionary midfielder that has become the finest deep-lying playmaker in world football, a position where flawlessness is needed as getting dispossessed leaves the defense in a terrible situation.
Here are the five finest moments of Pirlo's illustrious career with Milan:
5. 2009 Match vs. Real Madrid
1 of 5
Even though these would be his last seasons with the Rossoneri, Pirlo showed all of his immense class in the October 2009 Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
Milan's 3-2 win at the Santiago Bernabeu in this group-stage encounter was a thriller, with Pirlo scoring a wonderful 30 meter free-kick in hostile territory.
Pirlo was flanked by the experienced pair of Clarence Seedorf and Massimo Ambrosini in this match, doing the playmaking and finding the attackers with regularity. Alexandre Pato would go on to score a brace against Real Madrid, showcasing his skill as a young, up-and-coming talent in world football.
This match is highlighted because it was one of the last times in which he was fantastic for Milan in the Champions League, before the injuries set in and he was deemed surplus by Massimiliano Allegri.
4. 2007 FIFA Club World Cup

In 2007, Milan got all the way to the FIFA Club World Cup, eventually beating a tricky Boca Juniors side in Japan by a 4-2 margin in a match that gave Milan yet another trophy to add to their vaunted collection.
Pirlo was instrumental yet again, assisting one of the goals and creating many chances for Filippo Inzaghi and Kaka, who gave the Argentine defenders a nightmare in their own half.
Even though there are doubts about the importance of this title, it was yet another unique achievement for a club that wanted to win in every format and continue spreading their brand on a worldwide scale.
3. 2004 Scudetto

Pirlo was once again a vital part of a team that won a title. Milan's Scudetto victory in the 2003/04 season showed just how powerful the Rossoneri were both in Europe and domestically.
He scored eight goals in all competitions for Milan that season and showed just how important he could be as one of Italy's best midfielders.
What made it so hard for defenders to mark Pirlo was his exceptional dribbling ability, quick accelerations and clever movements. His set-piece ability also took a turn as he almost always tested the goalkeeper from a free-kick.
2. 2007 Champions League Final
4 of 5
After losing to Liverpool in the 2005 Champions League final in the most heartbreaking of circumstances, Milan faced the Reds a few seasons later in the final and got their revenge.
Pirlo once again was an integral part of the midfield, this time alongside Gennaro Gattuso and Ambrosini.
Inzaghi proved to be the difference by scoring a brace which gave the Rossoneri their seventh Champions League title, second only behind Real Madrid.
Pirlo hoisted the cup once again, and he cemented his name among the greatest midfielders in world football history.
1. 2003 Champions League Final
5 of 5
Pirlo started for Milan in their 2003 Champions League final win over Juventus, which finished with a dramatic penalty shootout.
At the time, he was only in his second season for Milan and still in his early 20s but nonetheless controlled the midfield of a Rossoneri unit that went all the way to the European final.
Thanks to Gattuso, Pirlo was allowed to ply his trade as a playmaker. Gattuso did the hard work in the center of the park, allowing the more creative midfielders to get forward and create for the strikers.
This would be the first major trophy that Pirlo was able to hoist, and it would set the scene for what is one of the most storied careers we'll ever see.
