5 Reasons to Watch UFC Fight Night 52

Riley KontekSep 16, 2014

I hope you like staying up late in America. UFC is coming live from Japan, and it will be from late night to midmorning.

Light up the coffee maker, drink an energy drink or go on a sugar bender. Either that, or wait until you wake up in the morning and catch the replay.

If you're a psycho like me and have to watch the fights live, you will be up. Sure, it may cause suffering later in the day, but that's why I am the diehard MMA watcher.

Need some reasons to justify staying up for this event? I shall give you five, my friends.

KO Power and Unbreakable Chins

1 of 5

Between them, Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson own 19 victories by way of knockout. That means this fight has no chance of making the judges, right?

Well, they also both have granite chins and can take a punch as good as any man on the planet. Therein lies the conundrum, no?

It's like the unstoppable force meets the immovable object. Either man can land his knockout blow, but will it break through the other man's impenetrable chin?

Find out on Fight Pass. It will definitely be worth it.

Myles to the Top

2 of 5

Myles Jury may be the most underrated fighter to come out of The Ultimate Fighter. Ever. Think about that.

Jury has taken the UFC by storm, going undefeated since graduating from the 15th season of the show. He hasn't been fighting chumps, either, showing that his stock is about to burst through the ceiling.

He continues to get top-billed fighters, with Takanori Gomi, a legend in the lightweight division with brutal one-punch KO ability, up next.

Will Jury use his ground game and neutralize Gomi's knockout game, or will he prove not ready for the limelight?

Tate Welcomes Japanese Sensation

3 of 5

Miesha Tate is a former Strikeforce champion, UFC title challenger and all-around star in women's MMA. Rin Nakai is the most popular female fighter in Japan and holds an undefeated record through over 15 pro fights.

This match has the makings of an important one.

Both women like to wrestle and can submit people with their superior skills. They are also among the shallow 135-pound rankings looking to get into the title picture with a win.

With that type of importance, you can guarantee these two are ready to go to war.

Return of Sexyama

4 of 5

Admit it, you missed Yoshihiro Akiyama. You may not have realized it, but you missed him.

That's because Akiyama is exciting every time he fights. Sure, he hasn't been the most successful fighter since entering the UFC, but he has been a showman regardless.

During his layoff, opponent Amir Sadollah has also been inactive. That's what makes this bout between two men finally making their return interesting.

Seriously, stop acting like you didn't miss Akiyama.

Japanese Talent in Full Force

5 of 5

Let's face it: Japan hasn't produced the high-level talent it used to in recent years. However, that seems to have taken a corner with some of the awesome guys we have seen lately.

There have been some great fighters coming out of Japan. On this card, Rin Nakai, Michinori Tanaka, Kyoji Horiguchi and Kiichi Kunimoto will compete, just to name a few.

These competitors have what it takes to carve out a nice legacy in the UFC. Their respective journeys will continue Saturday as they fight for recognition.
