Monday Night Football Week 2: TV Schedule, Live Stream for Eagles vs. Colts

Matt FitzgeraldSep 14, 2014

After a thrilling conclusion to the opening Monday Night Football doubleheader, the NFL schedule serves up a magnificent matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium for Week 2. The Indianapolis Colts will play host to the Philadelphia Eagles in a monumental, early-season clash of two teams trending upwards.

For former No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Luck, he has a reputation to uphold as the Colts' starting quarterback.

ESPN Monday Night pointed out a key statistic involving Luck—the young man, not the age-old concept—one that's aided Indianapolis' success in the post-Peyton Manning era:

Luck had everything and nothing all at once to do with the Colts' valiant comeback effort in Denver last week. Unfortunately, Indy fell short in a 31-24 loss and is now faced with a tough turnaround, albeit with an extra day to prepare for another prime-time affair.

It certainly appeared as though the Eagles were in for a rude awakening as NFC East favorites at the dawn of the 2014 campaign. A 17-0 home deficit to the Jacksonville Jaguars entering halftime was redeemed, though, to the tune of 34 unanswered points in the final 30 minutes of action.

In anticipation of Monday's showdown, check out the television schedule and live stream information for these respective, reigning division champions.

Eagles vs. Colts Preview and Final Score Prediction

So why is this matchup so fascinating? Eagles coach Chip Kelly's mad offensive genius—see: Week 1 halftime adjustments, NFC East crown in year one—is in a perpetual, warp-speed race against itself.

Kelly is going to run as many plays as possible, drill sergeant style, to try and wear Indianapolis down, sucking the energy reserves out of Lucas Oil in the process. The hope is that Philly can build a lead big enough to avert the heroics Luck seems to pull off in perfunctory, weekly fashion.

The NFL on ESPN highlighted Luck's knack for rallying his Colts amid Sunday night's battle with the Broncos:

Since Indianapolis lacks balance with Trent Richardson as the No. 1 back, it will likely boil down to Luck's ability to mount a come-from-behind charge yet again.

One potential pitfall for Philly is the injury bug that's afflicted the offensive line—the unit that makes the Eagles' well-oiled offensive machine churn. The Eagles' Twitter account outlined the steps the team has taken to address the issue (h/t NFL.com's Marc Sessler):

If Kelly is concerned about the big men filling in the vacancies left by prior starters, he isn't showing it.

"If the guys plugged in are the guys that have been here for a while...they can handle (going fast)," said Kelly, via NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks. "It didn't affect us in the second half against Jacksonville because (center/guard) David Molk and (tackle) Andrew Gardner handled it really well...(Guard) Dennis Kelly can handle it."

Philadelphia QB Nick Foles threw just two interceptions to 27 touchdowns in 2013, and after a shaky preseason and opening regular-season half, he looks to be back on track.

NFL.com's Gil Brandt brought up a relevant stat regarding Foles' poise away from home:

Foles isn't as mistake-prone as Luck, because he has a run-heavy offense to lean on and doesn't need to force the issue. Too often Luck presses and makes bad decisions because of it.

Per Pro Football Focus, Luck ranks 21st in Accuracy Percentage among Week 1 starters and was 27th in the NFL last year. Foles has simpler reads, a better rushing attack to complement him and an ideal opponent in that the Colts' front seven lacks both speed and a viable edge-rusher without absent Robert Mathis.

Indianapolis has no sure answer for the lethal backfield tandem of LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles—who does?—particularly when the latter playmaker goes out to catch a pass. Expect Sproles' yards per catch on four receptions from last week (3.5) to skyrocket in this one.

Furthermore, "Shady" has been as real as it gets on the Monday Night Football stage:

Athletic tight ends will keep giving the Colts fits, too. They were torched for three touchdowns by Broncos star Julius Thomas in the opener. Bad news: Philadelphia has Zach Ertz on the precipice of breaking out (three receptions, 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 1), along with Brent Celek—another capable pass-catcher.

CSNPhilly.com's Corey Seidman briefly broke down the role Ertz may play Monday:

While the Broncos game should prepare Indianapolis rather well for Philly's uptempo style, Kelly and Co. have a mismatch on their hands based on personnel more than anything else.

Unless Indianapolis can get the crowd into it early, things may get ugly. The Colts must get physical on the ground, led by ball-carriers in Richardson, Ahmad Bradshaw and even Luck. They can't get into a shootout with Luck throwing near the 53 attempts he had in Week 1.

Lucas Oil Stadium can't be underestimated. Nor can Luck's will to win.

That combination makes Indy one of the toughest places to play for road foes, but Philadelphia has the foundation to overcome those obstacles and thrive. The chameleon-esque Kelly can adapt his system to seemingly any situation, while the Colts will continue to lean on Luck until they have a better collective effort.

Although starting 0-2 may appear to doom Indianapolis, the team has a phenomenal young QB in Luck and plays in one of the most wide-open divisions in the AFC South. Luck will lose two games for the first time as a pro Monday, but it will only add more fuel to his fire, toughen the Colts and help them as the season wears on.

Prediction: Eagles 38, Colts 27
