WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of Sept. 8

Ryan DilbertSep 12, 2014

Reflections on tag teams and a celebration of NXT's new arrivals highlighted the top WWE social media this week.

The most noteworthy tweets, viral videos and Instagram photos focused on both teams from the past and stars of the future. A Brogue Kick in an NFL game, Corey Graves' wit and a message from a Hall of Famer also made the cut.

Sunday marked the first full slate of games for the NFL. As fun as that was, it normally wouldn't have much of a connection with the WWE world. That is until receiver Antonio Brown seemed to pull a move out of Sheamus' playbook.

During the Pittsburgh Steelers' narrow win over the Cleveland Browns, Brown returned a punt and kicked a man in the face in the process.

The blow looked a lot like Sheamus' trademark finishing move. Pro Wrestling News noticed; The Celtic Warrior responded:

The kick resulted in a $8,200 fine, per NFL.com. That's nothing compared to the $500,000 fine Sheamus once received (in storyline) for knocking a referee in the noggin with the Brogue Kick.

As referee Chad Patton found out during that incident, the WWE is a painful place, even if you aren't a wrestler. Jerry Springer learned that lesson on Monday's Raw.

He attempted to moderate an intervention between the warring Bella sisters. He got a trip to the mat and a turned ankle for his troubles.

It was a segment some would label silly and others see as fun. Inactive NXT prospect Graves offered a funny perspective on the situation on Twitter:

A few days later, WWE was set to air its third NXT live special: NXT Takeover: Fatal 4-Way. The event would mark the NXT TV debut for Kenta (now known as Hideo Itami).

He is one of three recent additions to WWE developmental that have fans of Japanese and independent wrestling drooling. Triple H gathered up Itami, Kevin Steen and Fergal Devitt for the kind of selfie that speaks to a wrestling nerd's heart:

What a collection of talent.

Once all three men are on NXT TV, the power balance at Full Sail University is going to shift dramatically. Fans saw a glimpse of that when the previously dominant Ascension fell victim to Itami's strikes.

WWE shared a great shot of him after the brawl, looking ready for another fight:

The Ascension, now that its title reign is over, may be doing its fighting on the main roster before long. The tag team division could use Konnor and Viktor, especially if The Usos retain throughout their feud with Goldust and Stardust.

The Usos have been thrilling thus far but haven't had a consistent stream of strong rivals. The Ascension could give them a compelling challenge.

WWE compiled some of Jimmy and Jey Uso's best moments to date in the latest 30 Seconds of Fury video:

Heath Slater and Titus O'Neil haven't been nearly as successful as a pair as the tag team champs. They spent much of the week experiencing The Bunny from The Rosebuds' superkicking skills

That has seemingly caused the already dysfunctional team to bicker even more. In a Hyperlapse video on Instagram, fans got a unique backstage look at their infighting:

This may be good for laughs, but it doesn't bode well for their chances at becoming tag team champions at some point.

The Usos seem unstoppable right now, but eventually someone is going to dethrone them, be it The Ascension or the Rhodes boys. Champions never remain champions forever.

In a new top-10 video, WWE reminded us of that fact, by taking a look back at some of the biggest tag title changes in history:

Remembering Soul Patrol's historic win and The British Bulldogs' emotional victory is a nostalgia-rich experience for those who witnessed those moments as they happened. A man who competed before, during and after those matches never won a title with WWE.

Jake "The Snake" Roberts didn't need to wear gold to make a lasting impression and earn his way into the Hall of Fame, though.

Unfortunately, his personal life has sometimes been as dark as some of his promos. The latest bad news he received was that doctors found an abnormality in his brain during a recent hospital stay for double pneumonia, as his attorney wrote in a letter to Bill Apter of 1Wrestling.com.

Roberts is now out of the hospital and recently made an appearance for Future Stars of Wrestling.

In a powerful speech, he talked about a new cancer he'll have to fight, how Diamond Dallas Page saved him and what his faith means to him:

(NSFW note: Video contains brief profanity.)

Even weakened after his health scare, Roberts is still a hypnotizing speaker. The video is proof of that.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery and that the next time Roberts is in the news, it's for something much more positive.
