Emre Can appears set to hand Liverpool a boost after revealing he is in good shape after his ankle injury.

Liverpool's official Twitter delivered the latest:

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is expected to miss around six weeks of action after suffering an ankle injury while playing for Germany's under-21 squad.

The club passed along remarks from manager Brendan Rodgers, who noted the extent of the injury, which was suffered in an 8-0 victory over Romania:

Can was putting together an extremely strong performance before the injury put a damper on the effort. He had three assists and was a constant playmaking presence in the midfield. That's exactly what the Reds were hoping to see after signing him from Bayer Leverkusen.

He enjoyed a terrific campaign for the Bundesliga side in his only season at the BayArena after moving from Bayern Munich. He had three goals and three assists while filling a couple of different midfield roles in 29 league matches.

The 20-year-old German has only made two appearances for Liverpool so far in the new season, both of which came as a substitute. He did show some solid distribution skills in those games, but it's impossible to make much judgment from that type of limited action.

Now he'll have to wait even longer before he gets a more extended run with his new club. It also represents a blow to the Reds' depth as they face a busy stretch coming out of the international break. Can would have likely been in line for some additional playing time.

Liverpool will hope he's able to make a quick recovery without any setbacks along the way. The outlook remains bright for Can, but his progress is on hold, at least for a little while.
