Manchester United Transfer News: Paul Pogba Shouldn't Be an Option This Winter

Gianni VerschuerenSep 8, 2014

Manchester United fans across the globe would love nothing more than to see Paul Pogba return to the club, but according to the latest reports, the Red Devils should hold off on a potential move until the summer of 2015.

As reported by the Daily Express' Alex Harris, the Mancunians are preparing to move for the 21-year-old former academy player, who is rated at roughly £60 million.

Juventus have been trying to lock up Pogba with a long-term deal for months now, but they have yet to find success. If efforts to negotiate with super agent Mino Raiola continue to prove fruitless, it would make sense for the Bianconeri to consider a sale now rather than risk losing their star midfielder on a free transfer.

But according to reports from Italy (h/t Football Italia), the two parties are finally closing in on a deal that would see Pogba triple his salary between now and 2018:

"

The French youngster, still just 21, is set to be rewarded for his performances and loyalty with a new deal until 2018, with an option for 2019.

As part of that agreement, the former Manchester United man will see his wages rise from €1.5m a campaign to €4.5m.

Talks with agent Mino Raiola have already begun and an official announcement is not expected to be too far away.

"

Pogba needs no introduction for United fans. Once arguably the brightest prospect in the club's academy, the French youngster left the club in search of more playing time in 2012.

While many fans initially agreed with Sir Alex Ferguson's decision not to give in to his demands, Pogba quickly showed the world that perhaps he was right to ask for more minutes. Over the last two years, he has developed into arguably the best young midfielder on the planet and an integral part of both Juventus and the French team.

Juventus have a long history of cultivating French talents, with the likes of Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane building their careers in Turin. Kingsley Coman recently joined Pogba in North Italy as well, further building on that tradition.

David Trezeguet is another one of those legendary French players of the Bianconeri, and he told Tuttosport (h/t Tarek Khatib) he believes Pogba is happy to stay with Juventus for the foreseeable future:

Manchester United have one thing Juventus cannot offer the young Frenchman: bags and bags of money. The reported new yearly wages of €4.5 million are still well short of what a top player like Pogba would be earning in the Premier League, and the Red Devils have the financial power to make Juventus an offer they simply cannot refuse.

Pogba's recent performances have only increased his value, as shared by Di Marzio's David Amoyal:

Despite United's superior financial outlook, a transfer in January would become highly unlikely if Pogba were to sign a new deal. New coach Massimiliano Allegri is still winning over the fans in Turin; he needs to have a sensational first season with the club, and for that, he needs the mercurial Pogba.

Andrea Pirlo isn't getting any younger, and transfer speculation will surround Arturo Vidal until the day he leaves the club. Claudio Marchisio is a very good replacement, but he's not the kind of world-class player Pogba, Pirlo and Vidal are.

Unless a player forces the club to deal, Juventus will not be a selling club in January. Not even if United make a ridiculous offer, because Allegri knows all too well the biggest teams in football will return with those same offers in the summer.

Pogba is making a name for himself, ever-improving and ever-growing in stature. He's a prime candidate to break the transfer record the day he decides to leave Italy, and chances are he'll sign one of the richest contracts in football history.

In order to continue enhancing his reputation, he needs to shine on every level. That includes the UEFA Champions League, something the Red Devils cannot offer him. All signs point toward a quick turnaround at Old Trafford; come the summer of 2015, United will be a far more appealing destination for the youngster.

The bad blood between Pogba and the Red Devils has all but disappeared, and there's no reason United shouldn't try their hand at bringing the superstar back to the club. They'll just have to wait until next summer.
