Jarrett Boykin Gets Blanked by Richard Sherman, Calls Seahawks CB 'Beatable'

Dan CarsonSep 5, 2014

The Isle of Sherman is a terrible place to visit.

Food is scarce, the reception is awful and there’s one solitary tree sitting on the entire, godforsaken patch of dirt. It’s a spindly Whomping Willow, and it never shuts up.

After spending the better part of three hours on Thursday night wasting away on this lonely expanse, Jarrett Boykin emerged with a waxy box of statistical donuts.

The Green Bay Packers caught zero passes for zero yards on zero targets. He ran, he cut and he blocked, but he was otherwise a non entity for Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers motioned and shouted in his direction, but in the end, the audience realized Boykin had been Bruce Willis the whole time.

The good news is, a lack of statistical significance against the Seahawks hasn’t wounded the Green Bay receiver’s sense of worth. Despite being completely nullified by Sherman, Boykin believes he can beat the Seattle cornerback.

Yahoo Sports’ Dan Wetzel (h/t NextImpulseSports’ Sean Wagner-McGough) reports that Boykin told reporters that Sherman isn’t anything special on defense.

“I mean he’s a smart corner but I don’t see him any different than any other corner,” Boykin told Wetzel in the locker room after the game. “He’s beatable.”

Big words from a guy who failed to leave a thumbprint on the stat sheet—but then again, neither did Sherman.

The Seahawks corner recorded zero tackles, zero pass breakups and nary an interception to speak of. Rodgers didn’t throw to a receiver covered by Sherman once all night. The cornerback’s most noticeable moment on camera came when he failed to wrap up James Stark near the line of scrimmage.

Sherman’s side was a dead zone—an eerie, Bermuda Triangle of silence. Wetzel reports that the cornerback didn’t even mock the opponent’s bench or tell someone they sucked.

“He’s been known to taunt quarterbacks with fake yawns or shout at the opposing bench to come at him. He did neither on [Thursday],” Wetzel writes.

In any case, Boykin may be on to something. It’s possible to escape the Isle of Sherman, you just have to, you know, do it.
