Who Will the WPS All-Stars Face in St. Louis?
At this point in the season, I want to step away from writing about the Los Angeles Sol's adventures on romping through the Women's Professional Soccer season to weigh-in on which European club the WPS All-Stars will be facing.
One thing is for sure: the team is going to be a good side with a reputation of domination. In the future, I would love the see the winner of the 2009-10 UEFA Women's Champions League take part in the WPS All-Star Game. Or maybe the WPS Championship against the UEFA Women's Champions League winner. Hmmmm.
Without further ado, here are my top five.

1. UMEA IK
This would be the dream match for a lot of Los Angeles Sol fans (and others, too). Marta's former club vs. the WPS All-Stars. As of this week, Umeå IK are at the top of the table, so this is no easy opponent the All-Stars will be facing.
PROGNOSIS: This looks to be a very good possibility. They have been to the top twice with Marta winning the UEFA Women's Cup in 2003 and 2004.
2. OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS
Lyon has been investing heavily on its women's team. Players like the Sol's Camille Abily and Athletica's Hope Solo passed through the French giants.
PROGNOSIS: Somewhat of a possibility, but not as good as Umeå's. They have yet to win a European Championship, for starters. Because of that, I would be surprised if they are picked.
3. ARSENAL LADIES
This is my favorite for a number of reasons. First off, I have loads of respect for Vic Akers. He is as good a women's football manager as you will find in England (aside from transplant Abner Rogers).
Second, Arsenal is one of the strongest, if not THE strongest, women's football club in England. Winning the FA Women's Cup and FA Women's Premier League on a regular basis to go with a UEFA Women's Cup in 2007...not too dang shabby.
PROGNOSIS: As much as I want this team to be chosen, Arsenal would only be considered if Umeå or Lyon say no. Should they be selected, I hope Vic lets his ladies know that Fenton is a bit different from Boreham Wood in terms of the heat and humidity...
4. 1.FFC FRANKFURT
A long shot, but this would be a pretty good pick for the WPS to make. First off, Frankfurt has the most European Championships, with three. They have 14 national and international championships combined.
PROGNOSIS: As I said, they are a longshot, but this would be an interesting match-up.
5. 1.FFC TURBINE POTSDAM
All right. So what happens if the four teams at the top of the list are not considered? Go for the other German team that is hot right now! Turbine Potsdam is well-supported in the Frauen-Bundesliga and can hold their own against their competiton in their league. But will they be able to fare well against the best in the WPS?
PROGNOSIS: A longshot, but must be considered on merit.
HONORABLE MENTION: FCR 2001 DUISBURG
Pointed out by one of our fans here on Bleacher Report. This goes to show you that Germany has a lot of clubs that have talent. Duisburg, also of the Frauen-Bundesliga is another of the teams that is in the fold. Any of these three German teams would be a good match.
PROGNOSIS: Current UEFA Women's Cup holders, the last with the old format. Just like Turbine Potsdam, they are a longshot, but should have their name in the hat.
EDIT: Umea has been chosen as the team. Give us your thoughts on the choice on Bleacher Report.
