Joey Logano On The Pole For Nationwide Race At New Hampshire
Young Joey Logano secured his third pole in the Nationwide series today at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. This is his first pole ever at the New Hampshire track.
For the Nationwide race later this afternoon, Logano will be driving the GameStop/Singularity Toyota No. 20 car. This is Logano's sixth pole in 32 NASCAR Nationwide Series races.
Logano was well pleased with his car, saying it was "pretty quick". Logano himself had to be pretty quick as well, running off at full speed from his Nationwide qualifying effort to jump in his Cup car for Happy Hour.
There was a brief moment of concern in the media center when it was announced that Logano had won the Coors Lite Pole Award. Since Logano is underage, NASCAR quickly changed the press release to read that he had won the plain old "Pole Award for the Camping World RV Sales 200 presented by Turtle Wax."
Carl Edwards secured the outside pole in the No. 60 Scotts/Ortho Ford. This is his 15th top ten start of 2009 and his third in five races at the New Hampshire Speedway.
Clint Bowyer secured the third spot, posting his fifth top ten start at this traack. This is Bowyer's fourth top ten start in five races this season.
With a great qualifying effort, Scott Speed in his Red Bull Toyota will start in the fourth spot. Kevin Harvick rounds out the top five.
Erik Darnell was the fastest qualifying rookie. He will start the race in the eleventh position.
The top ten qualifiers for the Nationwide race are as follows:
1. Joey Logano
2. Carl Edwards
3. Clint Bowyer
4. Scott Speed
5. Kevin Harvick
6. Greg Biffle
7. Brad Keselowski
8. Brian Vickers
9. Kyle Busch
10. Mike Bliss
Eric McClure and Chase Mattioli got into the show on owner's points. Sean Caisse, former driver for Andy Santerre Motorsports in the East series, secured the final spot in the field with a 44rd place qualifying run.
