Brandon Jennings 411: A True Point Guard Disguised By Europe

Timber WolfJun 25, 2009

I have been studying the draft for some weeks now, but even longer, I've been studying Rubio and Jennings.

I've had my comparison on Bleacher Report featured on Hoopsworld.com

I've seen footage and feel that I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about when it comes to analyzing the two European prospects.

And I feel extremely strong about this statement: "I think if you did not know Brandon Jennings before you drafted him, you have no idea of the player you have just got!"

I'm a strong believer in potential, and when I say this guy has got a fistful of it, you might want to put on your boxing gloves.

Breaking Jennings Down

As a senior at Oak Hill Academy, Jennings averaged 35.5 points, 7.5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals per game.

In his senior season, Jennings was the Naismith High School Basketball Player of the Year, 2008 Parade Magazine Player of the Year, and 2008 EA Sports Player of the Year.

Before the decision to play in Europe, Jennings was among the nation’s elite selected to play in the McDonald's All-American game where he scored 12 points and dished out nine assists.

For high school basketball, these numbers rival any other historical stat line, including “The Chosen One’s.”

As a senior at St. Mary High School, LeBron James averaged 30.0 points, 4 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Jennings has James beat in points, assists, and steals, though due to his height, LeBron has an edge in rebounds.

The question is, can Jennings carry over his game to the NBA level like James did?

All of the stats are all evidence of my wild train of thought, but when I say that Jennings has the chance of truly being an All Star. In some peoples eyes, that is a stretch, but it's extremely rare to get a guy who can dunk like a forward, penetrate with the strength of a combo guard, but can pass like a point guard.

I think the Milwaukee Bucks got a great point guard, and that is honestly from the heart. No hype around it, no BS on it either, but Jennings does amazing things with the ball with a evolving basketball IQ.

I see Jennings averaging anywhere from 9 PPG and 4 APG, to 14 PPG and 6 APG, solidifying him as a rookie elite.
