Tomas Karberle on the Blocks?

Once again, as we inch closer to the NHL Entry Draft in Montreal, various rumors have taken on a life of their own involving possible blockbuster trades that may happen on the draft floor this coming weekend.

In past weeks, such names as Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Briere, Ottawa Senators forwards Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley, and Los Angeles Kings talented forward Alexander Frolov, are just some of the big names being bounded about.

On Thursday, another name was added to the mix as Toronto Maple Leafs veteran defenceman Tomas Kaberle, the longest serving member of the current Leafs team, is apparently close to leaving town.

This 11-year veteran is coming off a down season that saw him score only 31 points in 57 games. Despite the sub-par season, Kaberle has for years been the undisputed leader on the Leafs' blue line.

At last seasons' trade deadline, general manager Brian Burke came out publicly in saying that he will not trade the veteran defenceman. On Thursday, it was reported that Burke received a tempting offer for the 31 year-old power play specialist from a team that didn’t want to be identified.

Besides this certain team, who is believed to be also pursuing Florida Panthers free agent Jay Bouweester, there are also a handful of other teams who have made Burke a tempting offer for the blue liner.

Heading into the off-season, talk was that the Leafs were not going to deal Kaberle until after July 1st in hopes of maximizing a deal from a team who lost out on the Bouweester sweepstakes.

These rumors are reporting that the Leafs are seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on a Kaberle deal this coming weekend.
