Vince Carter Goes to the Orlando Magic for Three Players
Vince Carter is parting ways with another team. This time though it's a bit more subtle.
The New Jersey Nets have agreed to send veteran shooting guard/small forward Vince Carter and power forward Ryan Anderson to the Orlando Magic for postseason standouts Rafer Alston and Courtney Lee and back-up center Tony Battie.
Carter has been with the Nets since the 2004-05 season and has averaged 23.5 ppg over his 10-year career.
Net fans believed Carter was part of a team that could have brought New Jersey back to the top of the conference along with Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd. But, with no results, the three players have all departed from the Nets. Anderson coming off his first season averaged seven points per game and showed signs of a promising career.
Alston was traded to Orlando from the Houston Rockets this season after the Magic's original starting point guard Jameer Nelson went down with a season ending injury.
He played a key part in their postseason run and averaged 12 points and five assists per game since he joined the Magic.
The young shooting guard, Courtney Lee, who broke out after a promising postseason, will join Rafer in New Jersey.
Battie was going into his fifth year with Orlando. Before being traded away, he experienced career lows in all statistical categories this past season.
The Magic starting lineup, if nothing is changed, will be Jameer Nelson at point guard, Vince Carter at shooting guard, Hedo Turkoglu at small forward, Rashard Lewis at power forward, and Dwight Howard at center.
With a key position filled at the SG spot, the Magic now have filled up every need in the starting lineup and could see another deep postseason run in the future.
The Nets will see their starting lineup with Devin Harris at point guard, Lee could either fight with Keyon Dooling for the shooting guard spot or could be an undersized small forward, Yi Jianlian at power forward, and Brook Lopez at center.
